Summer is only a few school days away By Courtney James

I went around McLean High and asked some of the teachers here what are they going to do this summer and here are a few. Mrs. Ellis said she is “going to have a yard sale, plant the garden and then take her son to California and try to walk every day.” Mike, our afternoon security officer, said he’s going to Florida in June, raise a garden, take care of his pigs, cows, & donkey, then go fishing and boating during his days off, go 4 wheeling driving and then enjoy the warm weather.” Mr. Chrisjanson is going to “stay home.” Mrs. Mooney is going to “Florida to visit her brother; Minnesota with her husband’s family and then try to camp and boat.” Mr. Fears said he’s going to “Visit Panama City Beach, Florida, wear socks with sandals and relax with his two boys.” Mrs. Weatherspoon is going to “get some yard work done and then take her nieces and nephews on a trip.”

What Mother’s Day Means By Reba Jones Mother’s Day was yesterday, Sunday, May 14. Mother’s Day is a day in which mothers are honored by their children or family. Being a mother is really great and having a day for it to be celebrated and honored is amazing. People celebrate and honor in different ways. Some even think of different things when it comes to Mother’s Day. I decided to ask a few female teachers in our school what Mother’s Day means to them. Mrs. Ellis -“I think of my grandma and I honor my mom and mother-in law.” Mrs. Mooney -“I remember my mom and grandma and the wonderful examples they have set for me. But I also think of my three kids I have that made me a mom.” Ms. Weatherspoon -“I am not a mother so I celebrate with my mom and sister.”

The mutagen phenomenon It happened about 2,000 years ago. The year was 2,561 and scientists said they found a permanent way to eradicate cancer. It was supposed to be a way to do this before the cancer could mutate and become immune to the cure, like it always did every time a cure was made. Now they said it was different this time. The cure would be airborne and not a shot given monthly. This time they said it could cure the cancer before it could mutate, plus it wouldn’t harm the unaffected. Some of the people known as world leaders had cancer and they were desperate for a cure to destroy the cancer epidemic.

The epidemic occurred because of a global melt down of six nuclear power plants, these were strange machines that once were used for energy. The people known as the world leaders allowed the cure to be released. The cure was still experimental so not everything was known about it. Then, when it was released, it did cure the cancer but it also mutated us all into beastly animal like humans because it had almost every animal in the world’s D.N.A. in the cure to strengthen the genetic structure. Even the plants were mutated in size, structure and ability. The genetic code was so strong and flexible that the mutations couldn’t be fixed. After years of seeing the world slowly die we went back to the old ways of sorts but this time we had better knowledge. We built along nature instead of against it like the old days. Nature quickly took over and we lived as we do now, as one with nature. “So you mean I look like a peacock mantis shrimp and you an alligator because of an advanced technology long ago? Cool, but the cure seamed to make us better not mutant beasts.” Don’t you see we are better suited to nature now? “Hmm…I guess you’re right in saying that.” Maybe these days are better for us than all those years ago, when we were against nature.
