Valentine’s Day is Tuesday, February 14th By Brooklin Houghton

Vol. II, No. VII

What’s everyone doing for Valentine’s Day? With love in the air both students and staff are planning some fun things. Some people are going to the movies like Maxine Douglas and Jordan Davis. Others are going to stay home and watch their own movies and eat. Valentine’s Day is a day where you spend time with your loved one or loved ones! Some people,

like Skyler Stephens, says “I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day.” Student Corbon Sams says, “I’m taking my girlfriend to Applebee’s and spending the rest of the day with her doing whatever.” Krysta Norris says, “I’m going to Brooklin’s house and going to the movies, then going to go home because I have nothing else to do

so I’ll probably sleep.” I, myself am going to go to the movies and then spend time with someone very special and give them a gift. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Kittens are full of love By Clara Crowther Since Valentines Day is just around the corner and love is in the air, what is more lovable than a kitten? According to various articles on the internet, a kitten (also

known as a kitty or kitty cat) is a juvenile cat. After being born, kittens are totally dependent on their mother for survival and they do not normally open their eyes until after seven to ten days. After about two weeks, kittens quickly develop and begin to explore the world. After a further three to four weeks, they begin to eat solid food and grow adult teeth. Domestic kittens are highly social animals and enjoy human companionship.

“Kittens are a big ball of joy and they’re super soft,” said Maxine Douglas. Kittens require a high-calorie diet that contains more protein than the diet of adult cats. Young orphaned kittens require cat milk every two to four hours, and they need physical stimulation to defecate and urinate. Human-reared kittens tend to be very affectionate with humans as adults

and sometimes more dependent on them than kittens reared by their mothers, but they can also show volatile mood swings and aggression. “I have one kitten at home,” Mr. Fears said. “I enjoy taking her for long walks along the Wabash River beach.”

What is your favorite thing about bacon? Everyone seems to love bacon. Weather its crispy or soggy, bacon is a great addition to any meal. In fact, some might say that a meal without bacon isn’t really a meal at all.

Short Story

Valentines Vacation By Matt Michaels “Okay, well, we’re here in Rome so now what do we do?,” I ask while getting off the plane after everyone else. “What do you mean now what? Don’t you remember Max? We are supposed to be having fun this is a Valentine vacation,” says Sara with a bit of a laugh lingering in her voice. “Alright, I got the pic sis but, well, we need lodging and food for the two days here,” I mention after a stomach growls. “So, Dave, you and I can go get food while my sis Sara and Jessica go and get a place to stay.” Dave and I head to the nearest market area hoping a restaurant would be near so we could get food for today and tomorrow. “So how’s it going with you and Sara?” I ask Dave. “We’re doing good. And you and Jessica, how are you two doing?” Dave asks in return. “We are doing fine. She is happy go lucky as always. We have been looking forward to coming here and going to a story teller,” I say with a burst of excitement as we arrive to a restaurant to get the days meal. Dave heads in and gets a fairly large meal. After looking around a bit, Dave looks at his phone and says “Well, the girls found a place to stay and not only that, but the hotel has a story teller there. What are the chances of that?” “Well, considering its Jessica and my sister they didn’t stop until they found one with a story teller on site,” I say with a mouth full of bread. After snacking for a while we head to the

hotel. We ate and went to bed. “Good morning Max, it’s time to hear what that story teller has to say,” says Jessica jumping on me like a trampoline. “Gees Jessica, you’re crushing my lungs. This bed isn’t as bouncy as the one back in the U.S. you know?” I say as I grasp a deep breath. “Well, anyways, since you don’t usually eat breakfast I thought we could go and hear this story teller,” “Okay, let’s see this story teller and hear what he has to offer…oh, and happy valentines,” I say already dressed and halfway out the hotel room door. Jessica dashes towards me, then in a frenzied and clumsy hurry grasps my right arm. “Hey, wait up Max, we want to hear from that story teller too,” says Dave heading towards Jessica and me with Sara at his side. “Sorry, we didn’t think you would want to hear the story teller. You said you aren’t one for stories.” I say with a little embarrassment on my face. We all head to the lounge room to hear a story of valentine from the story teller. “Well, sure, I’ll tell you but only for three American dollars, please,” says the story teller with eagerness for the story in his eyes. “Sure, that sounds fair,” I say while handing the money to the story teller. “Okay were to start,” says the story teller. “In an old destroyed castle on the edge of a lake back in the mountains to the south, during the medieval times during the times of knights and dragons. One knight dared

to face a dragon by his self on this very holiday. If the knight wins he gets to take the beautiful princess. But if the knight dies, the dragon gets a royal meal. The battle went on for hours. The two seemed to be equals; neither giving up. The only thing there too weak for the battle was the castle as the knight and dragon fought within its dungeon the castle began to crumble and finally boom! The castle collapsed killing not only the knight and dragon but the princess too.” “Now every Valentine’s Day the dragon, knight and princess are brought back to life. The knight and the dragon are brought back as skeletons of their former selves and the princess as a glowing ghost. The princess is seen watching the battle in hopes of the knights’ victory.” “Sure and the tooth fairy has tea with them every Christmas,” says Dave sarcastically. “Dave you didn’t need to be so rude it’s just a story,” says Sara a little embarrassed. “Well, son, if you don’t believe me then meet me at the river near the mountain valley,” says the story teller. “Deal, your on! We will meet you there in an hour,” says Dave eager to prove he is

right. An hour later we meet up with the story teller near a boat and he takes us up river. “So, how did you hear this story Mr. Story teller,” says Jessica eager to learn more of the story. “I was told this story from the ghost princess, believe it or not,” says the story teller. “I’ll go with not,” says Dave sarcastically. After about half an hour we reached the castle to our surprise. After seeing this huge castle appear from what seemed thin air we all were at least a little convinced but not fully. “What time is it?” asks the story teller. “Eleven fifty five, why?” asks Dave. “It’s because they are brought back at midnight,” says the story teller. “We’ll see soon,” says Dave. After five minutes we fell silent but heard nothing. Dave laughs and says “Well, I guess you were wrong the story was fa…” Crash! The castle collapses and we see a skeleton knight and a dragon battling it out. In the distance you can see a faint human shaped glowing light.
