McGraw Hill Online Assessments This document outlines instructions for using the McGraw Hill online assessments for VCSC elementary schools. We thank McGraw Hill for allowing the VCSC to create these assessments using their content. The assessments have been created in Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment). Logging On To access our Moodle system, open a Web browser and go to moodle.vigoschools.org. You will be presented with the following screen:

Type your Username and Password in the blanks and click Logon.

McGraw Hill Online Assessments Accessing the Assessments Once you are logged in to the Moodle system, you can access the assessments for your school. From the screen below, do the following:

Your name will show, if you have logged on successfully.

Click on your school.

The screen will show below.

Click on your class.

McGraw Hill Online Assessments Taking the Assessment Students answer questions using their mouse to select a “radio button” next to the multiple choice answer. The assessment can be saved and finished at a later time, if the student is having difficulty or the class runs out of time before completion. To save the assessment for completion later, have the student click the Save without submitting button at the bottom of the assessment. They will have to scroll to the bottom to find the button:

The student will still be viewing the assessment, after they have saved without submitting. They will need to log out, by clicking the Logout link at the right top of the assessment and closing the browser. When the student has completed the assessment, they will then click the Submit all and finish button at the bottom of the assessment: another screen as follows:

McGraw Hill Online Assessments Finally, the student can log out from the last screen:

Click on the Logout link.

Closing the Assessment After all students have completed the assessment, it should be closed. Do the following to close the assessment:

After logging in to Moodle and selecting your course, click Turn editing on.

Click the hand holding the pencil to the right of the Assessment name.

You will see the following screen:

Uncheck Disable next to the Close the quiz option. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Save and return to course.”

McGraw Hill Online Assessments Other Features 1. Teachers can access their results by logging in with their email password. 2. An Item Analysis can be run to view their overall results. 3. Individual results can also be viewed for each student. Tips for Proctoring the Assessment 1. First Grade Fall assessments can be read in their entirety. 2. Take your time with the students. Logging in will take some time. 3. The reading portion has to be done as a class, the other portions can be completed at the students’ own pace. 4. There are numerous images in the primary grade assessments. If the images do not show, right-click on the area where the image should show and select “Show image” from the pop up menu. 5. A class roster with names and student IDs should be brought to the computer lab in the event students do not remember their student ID number (lunch and library number). 6. Students can save the assessment and complete the remainder by using the Save w ithout submitting

button. 7. Answers can be reselected. 8. Thought should be given to provide quiet work for students who will comeplete the assessment more quickly than other students. Viewing Assessment Results Every teacher can log in and view their students’ results. Do the following to view results: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Go to the VCSC Moodle system from the VCSC home page. Click on your school link. Find your course (class) and click on that link. Login using your email user ID and password. You should see the screen below:
