“Every Student, Every Day, Our Personal Best in Every Way!” Hello Clarendon Families, It is very hard to believe that May is here (I think the weather has kept us from believing so). From this point forward, the time will pass quickly as we have many, many activities, testing dates, and projects in place. Please call the office if you are in need of information or require anything over the summer. You can also visit the Clarendon Elementary School Parents Facebook site for updates as well. The days for the end of the school year have been scheduled and should remain the same. Sixth grade class trip is Friday, June 9th. Sixth grade Promotion Night will be Thursday, June 15 th. The next day, Friday, June 16th, will be the school-wide field day and community picnic lunch. The sixth grade will visit the lake and this will also be their last honor walk in the halls of CES. Parents and family are welcome to join us for the honor walk. The last day of school and step up day for K-5 is a half day for students on June 19th with dismissal at 12:15. We will serve lunch to the kids and the busses will take the children home. Details about transportation and busing as well as school day start and end times for next school year have been established. We anticipate that these start and end times will remain in place for the foreseeable future, barring any unique circumstances that might cause the need for change. CES’s day will run from 8:00am —3:00pm. Transportation/Busing: The most significant shift with regard to transportation is that we are moving to a single-route system as opposed to the double-route system we currently operate. The end result of this shift is that all of our students in grades K-12 will be riding the buses together, as is the case in a great many of the towns that surround us and in Vermont on the whole. With the school time changes that are listed above, we expect to target a 7:50 am school drop off for elementary students and an 8:10 am drop off for MRUHS students. Total times for students on a school bus route will ideally be limited to 45 minutes at the longest, which is already our current practice. We IMPORTANT DATES anticipate that the earliest bus pickups will begin at around 7:00 am, but until we School Board Meetings actually design and run the routes this summer based on which particular students Wednesday, May 3rd, 7-8 @ SMS live where, we can’t provide exact pickup times as of yet. Wednesday, May 17th, 7-8 @ TES There will be a Transportation Q&A session on Wednesday, May 10 at 6:30 at CES if you’d like to join NO SCHOOL us with questions. Memorial Day Please reach out to me with any questions! Your principal, Fred Valastro

Michael, fifth grader, has been nominated and has accepted the opportunity to participate at the National Youth Leadership Forum: Pathway to STEM – Boston summer program in July. The curriculum will encourage him to investigate his interests while simultaneously developing his leadership skills, unleashing the power to grow through adventures that excite his imagination, and unlocking new doors of learning. In science, students have participated in gooey worm wonders, it’s electric, toy science and safety, food (after dinner science), amazing air secrets, invisible science, bubble science, and fizz, pop, fly. In STEM, learners are working on a scale model of landing a 747 at the Rutland Southern Vermont Airport. In addition, other learners are working on homemade musical instruments, ship wreck treasures and the life of bats. Here is a complete list of the fifth grade project based learning: aviation, the life of ducks, a trip from the Earth to Mars, solar panels, scuba diving, and Chaga, logging, farming, algae, predatory birds, ice age animals, black holes, drawing, and holograms, Tesla coils, the growth of maple trees, and climate change. May and June promise to be a very busy time with our instrumental musicians and our 5th and 6th grade chorus. Tuesday, May 9th is the date for our Spring Concert entitled “Accentuate the Positive with Music.” In addition to the Crusader Band and the Fifth and Sixth Grade Chorus, we will be debuting Clarendon’s first ever, Fourth Grade Band as well as a surprise selection by some of the Sixth Grade musicians. Students will “dress rehearse” for the school at 8:45 a.m. and perform for the Clarendon Community that evening at 7:00 p.m. Please plan to be in the music room at 6:45 p.m. The Memorial Day observance will take place on May 30th at 2:30 in the Peace Garden. Accentuate your positive thoughts toward good weather that day! The Crusader Band and Fifth and Sixth Grade Chorus will travel to Rutland Intermediate School on Thursday, June 1st to see “How We Measure Up.” This is a very educational adjudication opportunity when they perform and learn from the direction of other professional music educators from our area and across the state. These same students will then enjoy a day with many other musicians at “The Great Escape” on Friday, June 2nd. Be watching for more information coming home with those students involved. Many thanks for supporting these musicians in our lunchroom sales. With your help, our students can celebrate their accomplishments at a more manageable cost.

IGNITE Day of Recognition

Secretary of Education Rebecca Holcombe welcomed educators, administrators, and educational technology specialists from 28 Vermont schools to the 6th annual IGNITE Day of Recognition and Powerful Conversation around innovation and transformation in our schools on March 30, 2017 at the Capitol Plaza in Montpelier Vermont. This annual event sponsored by Vita-Learn and Vermont ASCD was designed to not only identify innovative practices in our schools, but to also connect innovative educators together so they could be inspired by each other and continue to support each other’s work. Amongst the 28 educators recognized was

Mrs. Hogan from CES!
