May 9 (Tuesday): EDUCATIONAL SEMINAR: “Crocheting Compassion with Plastic Yarn” Presented by: Jerry Stark Plastic bags are one of the worst offenders of the wasteful products that are polluting the Earth's oceans and occupying the limited space of landfills. Equivalently, 429,000 plastic bags are dumped into landfills each hour; or 7,150 are thrown away each minute. So what can we do about it? Rather than throwing them out, they can be reused by crocheting them into multi-purpose mats (known as 'plarn' – plastic yarn) for sleeping mats for people without access to shelter. We will hear how this program started and see an actual demonstration of how the mat is made. 10:00 am - 12:00 am Hospital Classroom Snack Provided RSVP REQUIRED May 11 (Thursday): ROAD TRIP: “A Day in the French Quarter” New Orleans $25.00 per Person LUNCH ON YOUR OWN Depart from Ochsner Plaza II: 8:00 am Return Time: 5:00 pm With so much culture, history and entertainment, we will spend the day in the “Quarters” touring and eating on your own.
