23 March 2017 Dear Parents/Carers I write to you as we approach the Easter break. Red Nose Day: We ask pupils to support us this year with Red Nose Day by wearing an item of “red” on the non-uniform day Friday 24 March. Pupils are asked to donate £1 to the charity. Going The Extra Mile – Cake Sale: We will also have a cake sale on Friday which will raise monies for Autism Awareness and is being led by Daniel Giles in Year 8. Daniel has, over the last two years, raised over £2,400 and is attempting to achieve a total of £3,000 for this year. We ask if pupils and parents can support the cake sale on Friday then we are sure Daniel will be one step closer to his goal. Year 11 Mock Exams & Revision: Year 11 pupils are in the middle of their mock exams. Thank you to all the parents who joined us on Tuesday of this week for the Elevate Education evening session. The year 11 pupils will have a further session with Elevate when we return from the Easter break on Memory and Mnemonics, to further support revision closer to the exams. Further information and tips are available at https://ukstudent.elevateeducation.com/study-tips Next week is the start of week 8 of their 12 week revision plan. In addition we will share the revision sessions for the Easter break with pupils and parents next week. Please encourage / force your son or daughter to attend the relevant sessions for their exam course. Careers Fayre: Our annual Careers Fayre for pupils in Years 8 to 11 will take place on Thursday 30 March at school. Pupils will access the fayre during part of their lesson on Thursday as part of the schools’ careers advice and guidance element of the PSHCE curriculum. Year 9 Options: Year 9 Options Evening is on Thursday 27 April 4.30-7 p.m. Further education colleges will be present to also advise pupils in their choices on the next steps of their education. Open Evening: Thank you to all the pupils and parents who supported our Spring Open Evening last week. It was really well attended and many of our prospective parents will have had the opportunity to meet and listen to Miss Blakeley about her new role as Head of School from September. Art Exhibition: Last week many of our pupils were exhibited at the South Ribble Art Exhibition. We had 10 pupils awarded (K Walker, J Standring, B Robinson, H Brindle, N Andrews, Z Reeves, L Nicolls, S Ozola) with 2 receiving highly commended awards: P Shaw and Cawtherley. Well done to our talented, artistic superstars.
