Foreword I am delighted to report on Limestone Coast on Display, one of the six elements of the Women Working @ Winning project. This exciting programme guided participants on a path of training and development, culminating in the promotion of their business in the centre of Rundle Mall during Small Business Month. Extensive promotion was undertaken in the initial stages of Limestone Coast on Display to encourage participants to attend a workshop entitled Getting your Business Ready to Grow. This workshop was made possible with the assistance of Bruce Rodda, Export Advisor with Tradestart in the region. Twenty seven businesses undertook the training and fifteen of those went on to participate in Limestone Coast on Display in Rundle Mall. At the Mount Gambier workshop, participants took part in a live video link up with Hong Kong Austrade office and had the benefit of a personalised market briefing on their individual market segments and a chance to speak with the Austrade representative in Hong Kong. This link up was made possible by Telstra Country Wide who are great supporters of Women in Business & Regional Development, and their generosity is appreciated. Local Television station Win TV, worked with seven businesses to produce a promotional DVD of each business and this was displayed at the Rundle Mall Event. Participants were given their own edited copy of the DVD for future use in promoting their business both inside and outside the region. Businesses participating in Limestone Coast on display were also given the opportunity to attend a marketing workshop entitled Creating a Buying Environment, presented by the dynamic Kerrie Akkermans. Participants built their knowledge of experiential selling, working with other businesses to increase customers and using theming in marketing to encourage sales. Information was also provided to participants at this event on how to maximize opportunities from a trade display. Seventeen businesses had their own stand at the event and in addition the Home Based Business Network and Limestone Coast Food group displayed products for their members. Local artists and performers were represented; the Cooking demonstrations and local produce tasting attracted many visitors to the Showcase. Limestone Coast on Display was officially opened by Patrick Secker MP, Federal Member for Barker, and was attended by more than fifty dignitaries and business leaders and over 2000 visitors. I would like to acknowledge the work of the Project Coordinator Kate Facy for making this programme such an outstanding success. Her charming manner, organisational and communication skills and her persistence made this project an outstanding success. Thank you Kate and all who worked with you. Limestone Coast on Display in Rundle Mall was a successful collaboration between Women in Business & Regional Development, Limestone Coast Tourism, Limestone Coast Food Group, the Home Based Business Network and local business support networks. It presented the region not only as a great place to visit, but also a great place to do business.

The collaborative approach to promoting the region attracted media interest and many positive comments from visitors to the site.

Having a number of project coordinators made communication with businesses challenging and at times confusing.

Invitation list needs to be determined methodically and early. It is integral to the, marketing opportunities of the exhibitors

What were your major reasons for exhibiting at Limestone Coast on Display? Target Market Based in Adelaide Hoping for some marketing exposure Because we were asked and thought it was a chance to show our range of products Promotion of name and teaching resources and meeting others for networking and marketing To get some Adelaide outlets To expand our market base Promote products to business and public To find markets outside our region To promote our region and get the word out about our services To broaden customer awareness of our product and gain market feedback Promotion, Brand awareness, building visitation and sales Trying to get our name ‘out there’ and be seen as a vibrant business Increased exposure to find new outlets City based exposure to new markets Exposure of brands to Adelaide Markets 2.

Were you happy with the overall marketing and promotion in the lead up to the event? (e.g. DL brochures, website, radio interviews, A4 flyers, newspaper advertising features) Yes (12) Excellent We almost got more than our fair share on the day I was away from our region in the lead up so did not see things that probably happened Not aware of Adelaide publicity Yes, but thought the DLs where a bit of a waste for our business. Would have been more use promoting the event to Adelaide DL brochures did not work in that we didn’t need them, did not see/hear other advertising

Rundle Mall E Evaluations con vent Exhibitor tinued 3.

What benefits, both direct and indirect, did you derive from participating at Limestone Coast on Display?

Experience in Marketing our business Wont know re sales until later, loved the interaction with other exhibitors Direct benefit was for many different people to taste our product Experience of exhibiting I gave out many cards and received requests for wholesale pricelists I believe we have gained quite few customers Networking, having spices used by celebrity chef Finding out what people are interested in The opportunity to get out and talk about our services Making customers aware of native food/their enjoyment and future markets Excellent consolidated approach, which is what is needed to get people out of Adelaide Hope I achieved getting our ‘name out there’, but also made some valuable contacts Talking to the public promoting our products Networking, orders, market research Exposure – Will wait to see what comes from mail order and accommodation bookimgs 4.

I think I need a more specific education focus, but happy enough with the experience. Thought it was great Sound too loud when having to talk to visitors to the event 5.

Did you experience any problems or difficulties with exhibiting at Limestone Coast on Display? Yes No

2 13

If so, what were they To come – take down Should have been able to sell product 6.

What improvements would you like to make to future events held by Women in Business & Regional Development?

Better Cooling in the Tent Set up stands earlier Would like to be able to sell products as well as display them. Catch sales while people are in the mood to buy Ability to sell at end of show I would like to be able to sell smaller items to cover the cost Maybe introduce sales ability for people with products After official function be able to sell to the public as it is highly requested by them Banner on the outside of closed end of tent Signage or welcome on the western end of the marquee to encourage people to come from that direction 7.

Do you have any other comments or suggestions in relation to Limestone Coast on Display?

Perhaps the “invited guests” could have included marketing people Loved it – but would like to sell Invited guests should have had their business on their name tag General public very disappointed that product not for sale on the day. Excellent – ability for sales would be good Was it promoted in Adelaide radio/newspapers. IF not might help to get more involved- run a competition with entry at the event etc. The exhibition although fantastic location in the Mall, was very bland – ‘big white box’ more needs to be done externally to entice the public in
