February 8, 2017 Peter Watson, Chair and CEO National Energy Board 517 Tenth Avenue SW Calgary, Alberta T2R-0A8 Subject: Request for Costing Information Dear Mr. Watson, The Expert Panel conducting the review of federal environmental assessment processes is seeking assistance from the National Energy Board (NEB) regarding background data on the costs of conducting Environmental Assessments (EA) and the costs of maintaining internal management structures to effectively implement EA. The Secretariat supporting the Panel has been working with representatives of the NEB Regulatory Policy team to isolate some budgetary information related to the NEB’s EA mandate including the costs associated with the conduct of an EA. In order to help us meet our deadline for delivery of our final report to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, we would ask that the NEB provide us costing information by February 24, 2017. We have made a similar formal request for information from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency.
