Purpose

ICA Merit Scholarships

Why YOU Should Attend On average, 94% of those who complete the ICA Leadership Program, “A Call to Leadership,” say it increases the likelihood that they will remain in the field of direct care.

What is the ICA Program, “A Call to Leadership?”

Who Should Attend

I traveled to Washington DC to meet with Iowa members of Congress to tell my story.

The ICA Program, “A Call to Leadership” is intended for all direct care workers such as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Home Care Aides (HCAs), Rehabilitation Aides, Medication Aides, Hospice Aides, Patient Care Technicians, Direct Care Worker Mentors, Nutrition Aides, or Personal Assistants/Attendants.

When you complete the program, you’ll be able to:

I met with my legislator at the Iowa Capitol.

• Define the meaning of professionalism and how it applies to direct care workers. • List three ways to personally contribute to the positive image of the profession of direct care. • Discuss ways in which you see yourself as a leader. • Identify possible barriers to taking a leadership role and list ways to overcome each barrier. • Define advocacy as it applies to the direct care profession and explain its importance.

• Identify five qualities of successful leaders.

This leadership program is a one-day, educational program for direct care workers taught by a qualified ICA education specialist. Students are encouraged to think more broadly about leadership outside of the workplace, professionalism in the field of direct care, and how to become a spokesperson and role model for the direct care profession.

To promote the development of personal and professional leadership among direct care workers.

“I spoke at a press conference with the Lt. Governor.”

“My story appears on a DVD that has been shown nationally.”

• Scholarship that is not based on financial need alone. • Scholarship awarded based upon recognition of admirable and professional qualities. • Scholarship awarded based upon a sincere desire to grow in the profession of direct care. • Scholarship focused upon the desire to improve personal and professional development. • Scholarship awarded in recognition of good character/behaviors/qualities.

Option to Contribute The ICA maintains a scholarship fund that provides merit scholarships. To support this scholarship fund, please consider making a contribution to the ICA.

Option to Pay Although the ICA Program is offered primarily through individual merit scholarships, the ICA also accepts paid registrations. Call the ICA Office for information on registration fees.
