TESTING DRINKING WATER IN HOMES IN THE UNION AND THE HARROW WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM 0B

ONTARIO WATER SUPPLY SYSTEMS MUST BEGIN TO TEST DRINKING WATER FOR LEAD IN HOMES IN JANUARY, FEBRUARY AND MARCH OF 2008. 3B

The Union Water Supply System and the municipalities of Leamington, Kingsville, Essex and Lakeshore are looking for volunteers to allow us into their homes to take drinking water samples at the kitchen tap. This is a requirement under the new Ministry of Environment Regulations for lead sampling and testing in municipal drinking water systems. The Union Water Supply System supplies water to Leamington, Kingsville, the north part of Essex (the old town of Essex and Colchester North) and Lakeshore (Maidstone and Rochester South of Highway 401). The Harrow Water Supply System supplies water to the south part of Essex (Harrow and Colchester South) We are required to takes samples as follows: Leamington 60 homes or apartments Kingsville 60 homes or apartments Essex (N) 40 homes or apartments Lakeshore 20 homes or apartments Harrow 40 homes or apartments The preferred locations in order are: 1. Buildings with known lead plumbing 2. Building built before 1950 3. Buildings built between 1950 and 1985 4. Any other building To be a volunteer you will have to allow one or two samplers into your kitchen. You will not be able to use the water anywhere in your house for at least 45 minutes while the sampling procedure is done.
