South Bethany Comprehensive Plan – Community Questionnaire 2011 List of Property Owners’ Comments For: Town Services: Landscaping Maintenance throughout the town
In this survey, responders were asked to provide written comments if they marked 2 or 3 ("Very Unsatisfied" or "Unsatisfied"). Although quite often positive comments and suggestions were provided, most of the written comments tended to be negative.
Comments – Landscaping Maintenance Throughout the Town: TOTAL: 28 Comments/860 Returns (3.2%) After each completed survey was returned to the Town, each completed survey was given a number for record keeping purposes. The number before each comment represents that number.
308- Town landscape needs work; Ocean Drive is a mess. SB needs serious sprucing up! 273- Route 1 needs attention. 246- Maintenance of landscaping was poor last year – also no new plantings near walkways. 236- Need better maintenance of plantings on Canal Drive- Pruning Please. Can’t understand the tearing out of existing plants in the Route 1 median; with proper maintenance they could have looked fine. New crepe myrtle plantings are way overdone. 11- I question the need for all the maintenance equipment and vehicles. 22- The median strip and canal side of Route 1 should be planted with plants, trees, and bushes appropriate for the exposure and then maintained and watered if necessary. These areas have looked horrible in past years. 28- We don’t understand why the town removed the double row of screening pine trees behind the police station during the renovation. Please replace them. 54- Better job of weeding and maintaining. 81- Not very nice. 129- Landscaping and plantings are sparse and yield low impact. 143- Shoulders of all side roads need to have a straight pattern of pebbles along each roadside. 151- Landscaping below Bethany proper standards.

184- We need more plantings. 201- Tree limbs are improperly pruned. 205- Could be improved but we understand dollars is an issue. 209- None, only on Route 1. 430- More creative landscaping. 449- Needs to be updated. Get others to help. 464- Landscaping and maintenance at end of streets is awful – it was better before the beautification efforts. 512- Medians looked weedy with wildflower plantings. 537- Little landscaping on beach side- dead trees and bushes. 548- Perennials need to be planted, low watering plants-something cheerful. 592- Too strict. 702- Last year beautification was not enough. 738- Landscaping along Route 1 last year looked terrible. It looked like weeds were planted. 773- Dead bushes at end of our street. 804- Landscaping maintenance throughout the town is the responsibility of property owners – not the town. 835- A quality entrance sign to our town would be nice and could be acquired at very little cost.
