KwaZulu-Natal Arts and Culture MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha handed out learning material in the KwaMaphumulo area earlier today as part of ongoing efforts to ensure that all textbooks are delivered ahead of the 2015 school year. Sibhidla-Saphetha delivered the workbooks to learners at Vukile High and Joel Primary Schools this morning.

KwaMaphumulo is a predominantly rural area and provincial government is focused on uplifting such communities. As the champion of Ilembe District, Sibhidla-Saphetha, has been at the forefront of improving access to books and information through libraries for learners in these areas.

The provincial Education Department as well as Arts and Culture entered into an agreement two weeks ago to work together on a number of academic programmes to better benefit learners across KZN. The Memorandum of Understanding focuses on library and language services as well as arts and culture development in schools, among many other aspects.

“Cabinet has emphasized that delivering quality education to our children is one of our top priorities. We as the Arts and Culture Department will continue supporting the Education Department to help them achieve this goal,” said Sibhidla-Saphetha.
