12 June 2014 Dear Parents / Carers Trips: The trip from Spain returned safely during the half-term break and the students who participated appeared to have really enjoyed themselves. I would like to thank the staff who made the trip possible and gave up their time to make it happen including: Mrs Shaw, Mrs Bowe, Mrs Yates, Mr Hayhurst and Mr Biggins. Year 9 Holocaust Survivor Experience: Mrs Day (SENDo) has secured a link with the Holocaust Education Trust and, as part of the curriculum for students in Year 9 studying World War II, we have a Holocaust survivor visiting the school on Tuesday 1 July to talk to our students at Wellfield. I am sure this will be an interesting and eye-opening event for our students to enrich their curriculum and life experience. Year 7 Science Cosmodome: Wellfield has been working with the Institute of Physics over the last year. Year 7 students will have the opportunity to to experience an astrological talk by a visitor from the Institute of Physics in a purpose built Cosmodome at school on Wednesday 16 July. Wellfield Awards Evening: A reminder that on Tuesday 15 July we will be hosting our annual Awards Evening. Invitations will be sent out shortly for the Awards Evening. For new parents: our awards are presented to students for progress and effort in their subjects and the much coveted Learner of the Year. Fizzy/High Sugar/Caffeine Bottled or Canned Drinks: High sugar/caffeine drinks have a negative effect on students’ health/behaviour. As of Monday 16 June students will not be allowed to bring high energy/sugar /caffeine drinks onto school premises. These include any canned or bottled drink that is not water or a healthier fruit juice. Any students found with these drinks will have them confiscated and they will be disposed of in school. I am aware that these drinks are sold cheaply at many supermarkets and shops and they often appear an attractive alternative to healthier options. If you have any questions regarding this matter please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Pastoral Manger in the first instance. Please discuss this with your child so that we can avoid unnecessary issues in school or unnecessary purchases by your child. We have always provided access to free water in school if students bring an empty bottle. Loom Bands: Please make your child aware that Loom Bands are not allowed in school and students found with them will have them confiscated.
