26 June 2015 Dear Parents/Carers Inspire and Achieve Year 9 Options All Year 9 pupils will have received their option choices by the end of Tuesday 30 June. Pupil interviews are taking place on Monday and Tuesday of next week; pupils on the Paris trip will be been seen on Monday. Duke of Edinburgh Our Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Award pupils will be taking part in a skill development session this weekend. All pupils who were due to participate in the expedition are expected to attend between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. on Sunday 28 June. They should report to reception with the necessary equipment as per the letter sent earlier in the week (Monday 22 June). Summer Showcase & Arts Exhibition The Summer Showcase is on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 July from 7.00 p.m. onwards. There will also be an Arts Exhibition on both days, from 4.30 – 6.30 p.m., where parents and carers will have the opportunity to view our pupils’ fantastic art and photography work. Information about tickets to follow. Pride Awards This week the Secretary of our ‘Friends of Wellfield’ PTA was presented with a finalist award at the Lancashire Pride Awards for her twenty-one years of support for the school. This is an incredible achievement. It was also nice that one of our ex-pupils Victoria Todd was presented with an award for Employee of the Year and one of our parents received the overall area winner for Team of the Year, well done Mr Bennett. Challenge End of Year Exams Mrs Robinson, Assistant Headteacher, has already sent a letter out with details of end of year exams for all pupils from Monday 29 June to Friday 10 July. These exams are extremely important for every pupil as they will show your child, you and us their progression and attainment. If they do their best in these examinations we will have a clear picture on how we can help them progress further in the future. Healthier Choices Please can I urge parents to remind pupils that energy drinks and large quantities of sweets are not permitted in school. Local shops are making them particularly affordable to pupils. We have a water fountain in school, which is even cheaper for warmer days. School Session Times At the meeting of the Full Governing Body this week the Governors reviewed the comments and feedback from stakeholders following the consultation on the proposal to changes of the School Session Times from September 2015. The Governors voted on a modified proposal to increase the proposed lunchtime from 35 to 40 minutes, remove the afternoon registration period and keep the proposed finish time of 3.10 p.m.

Nurture Bon Voyage We wish our pupils and staff visiting Paris next week a safe journey and look forward to them sharing their experiences on their arrival home. Leyland Festival I would like to thank the parents, pupils and staff for their help in our contribution to the Leyland Festival last Saturday. Despite the weather it was a great success and our cheerleaders were amazing. We have the opportunity to build on this further in an exciting challenge next week in conjunction with British Gas. Competition entries from pupils on eco-schools submitted by Mr Birkin made the finals which take place next week in Manchester. There is chance for us to win from £25,000 in renewable energy equipment for the school and maybe even more if our dancing talent is up to it. I will keep you posted. Thank you for your continued support. Yours sincerely
