6 July 2015 Dear Parents/Carers Inspire and Achieve Special Award Last week we were invited to attend the Lancashire Evening Post Education Awards. Miss Blakeley received a highly commended award for Inspirational Teaching. The school won Secondary School of the Year Award. We are absolutely delighted that the hard work of our staff, governors and pupils has received recognition and know that we have improved in recent years. However, I am not complacent and know that we still have our own targets to achieve now and in the future to make Wellfield the best school for our pupils. Generation Green Energy Winner Also last week we were invited to attend the British Gas Generation Green Energy Performance at the Arndale Centre, Manchester. The school was selected after pupils submitted ideas and plans for more efficient schools that were energy generating and saving. For the final a group of our pupils had to dance in the Arndale Centre on a specialised dance floor to generate as much energy as possible, and they were judged by members of the dance group Diversity. We were one of only two high schools in the North West that made the final and we came second, winning £25,000 for the school to spend on energy equipment. A fantastic result for the school and thanks has to go to Mr Birkin for his careful leadership in the competition and Miss Whiteley who choreographed the dance group. The pupils have also been invited to Essex to practice with Diversity in their dance studio in the future. Thank you for your continued support. Yours sincerely
