January Programs

Kids Yoga Thursday, January 10, 10:00

Your child will get an introduction to yoga in this 20-30 minute yoga program. Adults are encouraged to participate with their child! Instructor led. Preschool Playground Wednesday, January 16 and 30 10:00

Harry Potter Movie Showings! January 2-4, 10:00

Enjoy the first three Harry Potter movies on the big screen at the library. Wednesday, January 2 - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Thursday, January 3 - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Friday, January 4 - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban On each of the three days you can enter your name in a drawing to win the matching Harry Potter book in the illustrated edition. Bring a blanket, pillow, and snacks to enjoy the wizarding world! Sign & Sing StoryTime with Communication Junction Tuesday, January 8 and 22, 11:30

Communication Junction visits for an interactive storytime designed to engage your child and encourage their love of books. You’ll also learn a few signs to practice together at home! This program is great for children 0-5. 2

Winter Non-Fiction Bingo January 2-31

Pick up a bingo sheet at the circulation desk and get to reading in the nonfiction section! Complete a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal bingo and have your named placed in a prize drawing. Black out the whole card and earn a second chance at the prize!

Grab your little one and friends to come and enjoy playtime at the library. YA CORNER There will be toys, music, books, and sensory activities. The library will be closed January 1 and 21 for New Years Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

TAB Winter Giving Tree January 1-31 The library’s Teen Advisory Board is sponsoring a winter clothing drive now through January. TAB will be accepting donations of new and gently used winter apparel in all sizes. The items will be shared with local individuals and families in need.

Learn this ancient Chinese tile-based game with Jan Bishop. If you have a Mah Jongg set, please bring it along!

Knit ‘n’ Stitch Friday, January 11, 10:30

Bring your knitting, crochet, and/or other needlework. Meet new people as you work on a project you bring from home. Open format.

Did you enjoy coloring as a child? Find that creativity and relaxation again! We will provide designs to color as well as colored pencils. Bring your own coloring pages and supplies, if you wish.

Rigid Heddle Weaving Rabble Thursday, January 24, 11:00-1:00

Make Your Summer Count for College and Career Thursday, January 17, 6:30

Vounteer? Work? Research? Summer is a great time to explore and gain experience to help determine a career direction. Designed for parents and their students in grades 8-11.

Which Test...ACT or SAT Tuesday, January 22, 6:30-7:30

There’s a new SAT! Why did it change? What is the right time for students to take a standardized test and which do colleges prefer? Most helpful to parents of freshman, sophmores, and juniors and the students themselves.

Tax Efficient Retirement Withdrawal Strategies Tuesday, January 29, 11:30

You may have heard, “It’s not what you earn, it’s what you keep.” No truer words have been spoken, especially when it comes to retirement withdrawal strategies. Incorrect sequencing of drawing down different retirement income sources can have irreversible and devastating consequences. Learn about the importance of strategically planning withdrawal sequencing from tax-deferred, tax-free, and taxable accounts. Learn about the correct sequencing for retirees through specific examples. Presented by Fran McKay of Catalyst Wealth Planning.

Book Clubs Page Turners Book Club Thursday, January 3, 1:00

Become a part of Dunlap Library’s longest running book club! Our first title for the year will be The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian. On February 7 we will be discussing The Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly.

An Hour to Kill Book Club Monday, January 14, 6:30

Lovers of mysteries and thrillers, both fiction and nonfiction, wanted! Join us as we discuss Grist Mill Road by Christopher Yates. On February 11 we will discuss Anatomy of a Scandal by Sarah Vaughan.

Adults and young adults are invited to discuss titles selected from the YA genre. This club will meet every three months. The title for our meeting in March is Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik.

“Who Picked This?” Book Club Tuesday, January 15, 10:00

This month we are discussing The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict. On February 19 we will be talking about Evelyn, After by Victoria Helen Stone.

We will gather in the library parking lot* at 9:45 and then walk the trail while discussing News of the World by Paulette Jiles. Our next read will be Stranger in the Woods by Michael Kinkel on February 28. *Weather permitting. If the weather is not cooperating then we will meet by the fireplace inside the library.
