World Energy Use and ISO Standards
The Department of Energy (DOE) supports the ISO 50001 Standard as a proven approach for U.S. industrial and commercial facilities to plan, manage, measure, and continually improve energy performance. This powerful new standard from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) provides an internationally recognized framework for organizations to voluntarily implement an energy management system. To ensure that this landmark standard fulfills its potential to drive major improvement in U.S. energy efficiency, DOE is working in partnership with industry experts and standard-making bodies to create a rigorous and reliable supporting structure. Working with industry, DOE helped lead development of this standard and is supporting demonstrations of its implementation in about 25 U.S. companies. A range of tools and resources are available to assist organizations as they embark on this rewarding pathway to energy savings, carbon reduction, improved competitiveness, and other benefits.
