More People Uninsured Under ACA Although the Affordable Care Act was expected to leave 20 million people uninsured, it was supposed to decrease the overall uninsured rate. But now, a study shows how unaffordable the law is and how it’s caused people to become uninsured. A survey by the Commonwealth Fund found more people uninsured in 2017 than in 2016 in certain categories. In adults ages 19 to 64, three million more people are uninsured today than last year. Among 35 to 49 year olds the uninsured rate rose from 11 percent to 15 percent. And for people with incomes too high for subsidies, the uninsured rate rose from 2 percent to 5 percent. “Following the ACA Repeal-and-Replace Effort, Where Does the U.S. Stand on Insurance Coverage,” Sara R. Collins, The Commonwealth Fund, September 7, 2017.
