Health System Plans to Tag All Patients with Alzheimers Risk Score Without patient consent, a Chicago healthcare system is running every patientʼs data through an analytics program to identify whoʼs at risk for Alzheimerʼs. Each patient will be give a score for the likelihood that theyʼll get Alzheimerʼs disease, and the score will be sent to the patientʼs doctor. These patients, identified far in advance of when the disease typically occurs, would be advised to take steps to not get the disease. Now imagine going to the doctor and hearing youʼve been tagged with an Alzheimerʼs risk score at age 5 or 30 or 60 -- as though the number were a fact. How would you feel? How would it impact your life? And how will doctors, paid according to patient compliance, be impacted if patients refuse to make lifestyle changes? “EHRs, Analytics Merge to Head Off Alzheimerʼs,” Fred Bazzoli, HealthData Managament, August 2015.
