Health Freedom Minute May 23, 2013

Religion's Rise of the Nones R.R. Reno, editor of First Things, gave a speech for Hillsdale College foreshadowing an America where religious influence is censored but faith endures. He says the number of people checking “none” for religious affiliation has risen from 3% in 1950 to 20% today. Except for Evangelical Protestants, they are “the single most ideologically committed cohort of white Americans…Seventy-five percent of them voted for Barack Obama in 2008.” And they make up much of the elite culture. “They are conscious of their power,” he says, “and they feel the momentum of their growth.” But, he believes faith communities have a remarkable ability to endure ideologies. “Religion and Public Life in America,” R.R. Reno, Imprimis, April 2013.
