Angelina Jolie Had a Choice. Will You Angelina Jolie had a double mastectomy to reduce her cancer risk to 5%. Genetic testing showed a 65% risk of breast cancer, so she removed her breasts and will soon remove her ovaries. She wants women tested and she wants them to know that they too have such strong options. But do they? Who paid for Angelinaʼs elective and expensive genetic testing, mastectomy and reconstructive surgery? Her insurer or her bank account? Will government or insurers allow you to have a mastectomy just to calm your fears? Angelina disregarded serious realities and risks in her New York Times commentary.
