Rigged Research Against the Elderly Welcome to the Health Freedom Minute. This is Twila Brase, president of Citizensʼ Council for Health Freedom. A medical journal recently claimed that 32 percent of the elderly undergo surgery in the year before they die. It then called for limiting high-cost surgeries and intensive care for seniors. In other words, they said, donʼt waste care if theyʼre going to die anyway. But no one knows when youʼre in your last year of life, so who will decide when your time is up? Betsy McCaughey, former lieutenant governor of New York, says the study was rigged. Only patients who died were included. This made the surgeries look unsuccessful. But the elderly who recovered, returned home and resumed life werenʼt included.
