Ignore Oct 1 Deadline; Decide by January Ignore todayʼs phony Obamacare deadline. Today is simply the day Obamacare exchanges must be open for business, but you can just ignore them. No one has to enroll in Obamacare. Under the U.S. Constitution, no one even has to be insured. January 1st is the date you should be thinking about. Thatʼs the day the government begins monitoring your health insurance status. If you cannot claim one of the 9 exemptions, you will owe an “uninsured tax” for every month you go without coverage for a maximum of 9 months.
