Nebraska Mandates All Prescriptions Be Reported When state prescription drug monitoring programs were first introduced about a decade ago, the purpose was to stop patients from doctorshopping for narcotics. But this surveillance system has long concerned me because its title does not specify narcotics. Thus, reporting of more and more medications could be required. And that is now happening. In shocking news, Nebraska is the first state to require that all prescribed medications be reported to the state Prescription Drug Monitoring Program. Yes, every antibiotic, insulin pump, and cancer drug. You name it. Every prescription reported to a state government database. Clearly, the repeal of this intrusive surveillance system is long overdue. “Nebraska Becomes First State to Require All Drugs Be Reported to Prescription Monitoring Programs,” Bernie Monegain, Health IT News, January 31, 2018: http://www.healthcareitnews.com/news/nebraska-becomes-first-state-require-all-drugs-be-reportedprescription-monitoring-program
