Health Freedom Minute January 19, 2016

Dangerous Drug Addyi The following minute might be considered more of a public service announcement in the name of patient health and safety. Perhaps youʼve heard of Addyi. Itʼs spelled A-D-D-Y-I. Itʼs the so-called female version of Viagra. But it can be dangerous, especially if a woman takes it with alcohol. I was listening to an expert on drug pricing and monopoly pricing who happened to mention this little-known fact. Apparently Addyi can cause serious life-threatening drops in blood pressure, especially if taken with alcohol, such as a simple glass of wine. So consider yourself warned, do your homework before asking for this medication, and consider warning all the special women in your life, both young and old. “Dysfunctional Drug Markets” (presentation), Charlie Silver, University of Texas School of Law, Cato Institute 10th Annual State Health Policy Summit, Austin, Texas, January 8, 2016. “ʻFemale Viagraʼ: Women, Just Say ʻNOʼ to Addyi,” The Natural Pharmacist, September 23, 2015.
