OPENING FOR HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC There is a Heavy Equipment Mechanic opening in the Allegany County Department of Public Works.

Salary Range: $16.28-$19.86/hour This is skilled work involving responsibility for the safety inspections and repairs to the larger more complicated automotive, mechanical and hydraulic assemblies used in construction equipment such as bulldozers, gradalls and cranes, etc. Supervision may be exercised over less skilled automotive mechanics, equipment operators and/or laborers assigned to assist. When not performing skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic duties, may operate motor equipment. General instructions are received regarding tasks to be done permitting for leeway in planning the details of each assignment. A Heavy Equipment Mechanic does related work as required. Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, terminology, safety precautions and tools used in the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment and construction equipment; ability to diagnose need for and to make repairs on a variety of automotive equipment and construction equipment; ability to plan and supervise the work others; ability to work from plans, specifications, rough sketches and to understand and carry out oral and written directions; ability to get along well with and secure the cooperation of others; good manual dexterity; good judgment; initiative and resourcefulness; reliability; thoroughness, physical condition sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four (4) years of satisfactory experience as a skilled automotive mechanic in a garage or repair shop, two years of which shall have involved the repair of heavy or construction equipment. Note: Successful completion of a certified training course in automotive or heavy equipment may be substituted for two (2) years of experience described above. Special Requirement: In agencies where required, possession of appropriate class NYS Operator’s License at time of appointment. Interested candidates may submit a complete Civil Service application to the Human Resource/Civil Service Department by a preferred date of February 3, 2017. There is no application fee.
