I officially take pity on all proud MU alumni and students. The Marquette "Gold" is the most hilarious thing I've ever seen. Bar none. And something that moronic could only take place if Bill Cords somehow had a say in it. It's obvious the will of the students and alumni takes a back seat to both good taste and political correctness.

P.C. my butt! Did Marquette offend some Golden Eagles? Were the eagles in town all talking about how the university disrespected them by having some idiot in a bird costume run all around a basketball court? for god's sake people... why with all the name changes. they should have kept the Warriors name and simply ditched the log the first time. what's the new mascot going to be? a goldminer? a jewler? or are we just going to dress up some poor student in a gold leotard and parade him around the court? sad. why even have a nickname at all? here's my suggestion... the Marquette University ___________ (fill in the blanks). I'd even rather have Warriors than that, and I was against them changing it at all in the first place. After 3 years as a Golden Eagle, I have to graduate tomorrow under the name "Marquette Gold." Horrendous. I mean, Stanford Cardinal, or Cornell Red is one thing...Marquette Gold?

Best student section in the Midwest!!!!! and clearly the best in the city. Not like those gutless, puffed up, suburban Chicago rich kids that supposedly call themselves college Basketball fans over at Marquette. I don't think I've ever seen as blatant a thumbing of the nose as I've seen today. The overwhelming majority of students and alumni had dirt kicked in their collective faces by a wussy group of unaccountable hacks.

Posted: 5/4/2005 9:16:12 PM Well, I guess this confirms what some have suspected all along: the MU Board of Trustees is comprised of a bunch of UW fans. Sheesh. Good luck recruiting, MU. And all the UW fans out there: if there was ever a time to pour on the humiliation, it's right now. (I am NOT a UW fan; I'm just stating a fact.) The only other reason behind this decision I can think of is that the Trustees really wanted to keep the Golden Eagles name, but they didn't think they would have a lot of fan support. So they developed a plan to come up with an incredibly idiotic name that everyone would hate. Then, after a few days of outrage, they annouonce that Gold will be dropped and Golden Eagles reinstated - and suddenly everyone will be thrilled!

announcement. "Gold" embraces our history? Are you on drugs? I agree with most people in that I didn't like Eagles but at least it was tolerable. This is a total disgrace and one of the biggest embarrasments I've ever witnessed.

Putting aside the absolute horror of the new nickname, I feel totally deceived by the board because this was supposed to be a 6-month review of the Eagles and Warriors nicknames - when in the world did a new nickname get put on the table? As an MU alumni, I filled out the 30 minute survey providing my input on the Eagles and Warriors, and they decide to throw it all out the window and secretly come up with the most ridiculous nickname I never heard. Talk about sticking it in the face of all MU students, fans, and alumni. If a new nickname was a consideration, then lets have a discussion about a new nickname with input from students, alumni, and fans. I honestly can't believe they realize the ramifications of what they've just done. This is it. Till the day we die we'll be stuck with Gold. I feel sick. Last but not least.......good luck with the fundraising MU - you're going to be in huge financial trouble after alumni donations start drying up. I for one will never give another penny the school until I see a complete overhaul of board of trustees. Revisions : 0
