Movie this month is “The Last of the Blonde Bombshells” featuring Dame Judi Dench, Ian Holm, Olympia Ducakis. A winning comedy…An All star cast! Movie is 84 minutes long. St. Joseph Hospice/AIM Palliative Home Care
Ms. Julie Hoffman, LPN,CHPLN, will explain to us, “What is hospice and what exactly is palliative care?” Ms. Hoffman comes with many years of experience in this field and she is delighted to talk with us. Bonnet Carre Spillway Tour/Middendorf’s
We will have a guided tour of the Bonnet Carre Spillway in Norco. Serving the engineering needs of South Louisiana is a task so monumental that it can only be performed by the U.S. Army. They meet the daily challenges associated with protecting the region from hurricane and storm damage, facilitating navigation along the Mississippi River, and simultaneously working to protect and restore the fragile and disappearing ecosystem that houses the water resources they manage. We will start our journey from Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner, leaving at 9:00 a.m. and arrive at Ochsner River Parish at 10:00 a.m. Then off we go to Bonnet Carre Spillway. After the tour we will head to Middendorf’s Restaurant. We will arrive back at River Parish at 2:30 p.m and arrive at Ochsner Kenner at 3:30 p.m. We have chartered a Hotard Bus. The cost of the trip will be $25.00 and lunch will be on your own. Please RSVP. Trip is based on 45 passengers. Please sign early as our trips fill up quickly.

Dr. Harrington will talk to us about gallstones, digestion, all areas of our gastro track. Our Lunch N Learn will be held at 12 noon in the Ochsner River Parish Medical Office Building in the 3 rd floor conference room. A light lunch will be provided. Please come with your questions. RSVP Required
Message from our Golden Opportunity Fit & Well exercise instructor, Ms. Kathy Koehl At Golden Opportunity it is our goal to bring you the most comprehensive movement/exercise programming available. Our new classes will begin in September. We are currently offering a complimentary series until the end of August so you can evaluate the program. Kathy has over 30 years experience in fitness/wellness programs. She holds certifications in Group Exercise, Personal Training, Yoga, Pilates and is the only educator certified by the American Bone Health Association in the State of Louisiana. Kathy’s plan is to evaluate movement patterns at the beginning of the series, provide appropriate exercise and re-evaluate every quarter to track progress. Kathy will incorporate aerobic movement, strength and balance exercises, breath awareness, postural alignment, flexibility work and meditative techniques. She will also incorporate a portion of the “BIG” protocol (designed to assist Parkinson’s patients) which encourages movement to stay vibrant. We are happy to provide you with a progressive and comprehensive exercise experience. Kathy will provide her exercise program to our members on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:15 a.m. in the Ochsner River Parish. Please come along with your friends, Kathy makes her classes fun! Renewals are $10 per year. If your membership with GO has lapsed for 2-years or more you will be required to “re-join” the program at the existing membership rate of $25 (member) and $40 (member and spouse). If you do not renew your membership you will not be allowed to register or participate in any event and/or trips if your membership is not up-to-date. Membership replacement cards are $5.00. I will review membership of Ochsner River Parish members in Sept. 2015. I will send out letters notifying GO members of their membership status. When a fee is involved, it must be received within 5days of making the reservation to confirm your seat. Please check availability with the GO office before mailing a check. All trips are non-refundable. Every attempt will be made to sell your seat to someone on the waiting list if you must cancel.
