April 5, 2016 (Tuesday):
American Bone Health Fair
Every 13 seconds an older adult is seen in an emergency department for a fall. Falls are the leading cause of hip fractures and the health care costs associated with fall-related injuries totaled $34 billion in 2013. We are planning an event sponsored by the American Bone Health Assn. We will have Ms. Kathy Koehl, our certified American Bone Health educator, and other peer educators available to us who are equipped to screen older adults for balance and strength, and to educate them on how to reduce their risk of falling. We will also have other guest speakers who will educate us on Bone Density tests available at Ochsner. Please join us, we guarantee you will be able to use this valuable information. We will have 2 sessions. First session will be from 10:00 a.m. till 12 noon, and the second session will be from 12 noon till 2:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. We will meet in the Ochsner Medical Office Building on the 7th floor Auditorium. Please RSVP as space is limited. April 8, 2016 (Friday)
Louisiana State Police Training Academy and LIGO
We will begin our trip by leaving Ochsner Kenner by Ochsner Bus at 8:00 a.m. head to Ochsner River Parish and pick up there by 8:30 a.m. We will then proceed to Baton Rouge to the Louisiana State Police Training Academy. (See enclosed flyer for more information). Once we have completed the tour of the Academy we will head to the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) which is located in Livingston Parish, a short distance from the Academy. We are scheduled for the LIGO tour at 2:00 p.m., which will take one hour. We will start home at 3:00 p.m. Please RSVP April 15, 2016 (Friday)
Tujaque’s French Quarter Restaurant
Please join us for our “Lunch Bunch” where we will travel by Ochsner Bus to Ochsner River Parish to pick up our members at 9:30 a.m. and travel to Ochsner Kenner to pick up members there for 10:00 a.m. We have reservations for 11:00 a.m. at Tujaque’s. The total cost is $55.00, which includes lunch, tax and tip and transportation. I can only accommodate 32 members, so please RSVP early. Festival International de Louisiane
The Festival International de Louisiane is a community-based, non-profit arts organization formed in 1986 to produce an annual visual and performing arts festival celebrating the French cultural heritage of southern Louisiana. (See the enclosed flyer detailing the festival.) Overnight hotel stay with a buffet breakfast and transportation cost is $124.00 double occupancy and $178.00 single occupancy.
