Getting To Know You – Ladies Group© Getting involvement in the church ladies group This drama works in three scenes. Each scene is set up with two ladies, sitting on chairs, side-by-side. A spot light for each scene would be ideal, however it can work without special lighting. There are six female actors and one female voice over. Everyday costumes for the actors would be all that is necessary. Script: First scene opens as spotlight comes up on Mildred and Joanne. Mildred
Oh, Joanne, (emphasizing) daaaaling! How ever have you been? I had heard that you have been quite ill for over a month!
Joanne
You didn’t hear, Mildred? (Disappointed.) I’ve been away in Africa for 6 weeks!
Mildred
Africa? Six weeks, you say! Well, (laughing, embarrassed), well, I guess I didn’t get my facts from a reliable source!
Joanne
No, I guess you didn’t. Seems like we haven’t really kept in touch that well!
Spot light goes off as Mildred and Joanne freeze, then comes up on Rhonda and Bev. They are sitting side-by-side, but not really acknowledging each other. (Rhonda picks up her purse and starts to rifle through. As she is rummaging, a book falls out. Bev picks it up and looks at the cover.) Bev
(Reads the cover out loud.) Spray-painting chimneys 101. Is this your book?
Rhonda
(Obviously embarrassed, quickly grabs the book and puts it back in her purse.) What? Oh, no! I’m just . . . holding it for someone.
Bev
(Disappointed.) Oh, I thought that I actually found someone else who loved chimney spray-painting.
Rhonda
You mean you like to spray-paint chimneys?
Bev
Well of course! It is a rather odd hobby, but I love it!
Rhonda
(Excited.) Me too! I was so embarrassed to tell anyone because it is such a strange thing to be interested in!

Bev
I know what you mean! My husband doesn’t understand what I see in it – he thinks all chimneys should be brown!
Rhonda
(Gasps in disbelief.) No! Why does everything else in the world get to be colorful, and chimneys get to be brown?!
Bev
That’s my feeling exactly! Oh, I wish I would have known this about you sooner! We have so much to talk about!
Rhonda
We must get together soon! You have to come and see my chimney workshop!
(Spotlight goes down as Rhonda and Bev freeze. Spotlights comes up to find Tanya and Marie sitting together, talking.) Tanya
Do you mean you have been praying for me all this time and I didn’t realize?
Marie
Well, yes. You see I could tell you were hurting so I knew I should be praying for you. I didn’t know specifically what you were going through, but I thought I would just pray in general for you. There was just never an opportunity to tell you that I am here to listen to whatever you have to say.
Tanya
Thank you. I could feel God’s strength every day. But I just wish I would have known about you praying – thanks again.
(Spotlight goes down as Tanya and Marie freeze. Then come up 50% on each pair of women as they continue to freeze. Voice over begins and women keep freezing.) Voice Over
Ladies, can you find yourself in any of these scenarios? I’m sure you can. Be a part of our ladies group, where you’ll find togetherness, sharing and support. But most of all, you’ll find Christ’s love at the center of our group. Please join us . . . (voice over continues with the practical information of when the ladies group meets. Once voice over is complete, all spots go down. Actors exit stage.)
