PrincetonOne’s Steps to Accomplishing Your Goals

Resolutions. Every year we make them, and every year it seems we lose sight of them once life gets in the way. In fact, according to one University of Scranton study, only eight percent of people claim to be successful at achieving their New Year’s resolutions. So, how can we make sure to accomplish all of our goals this year? We’ve listed five steps below.

The majority of people feel the most motivated at the start of the year, and, in turn, set a large number of goals for themselves or their businesses at that time. By doing so, however, they are setting themselves up to burn out. This year, try to narrow your list down to three or four of your most important goals.

Trying to accomplish all of your goals at the same time can become overwhelming and lead to failure. Start with the first on your list, and plan a course of action. Understand what actions need to be taken in order to achieve the goal, and start making small strides.

Instead of saying, “I want to be on time to work everyday,” ask yourself: “What do I need to do differently to make sure I am on time for work?” The answers to your questions will be your action steps towards accomplishing your goals.

Set monthly or quarterly alerts on your personal or work calendar that will help you to remember to check your progress. Be honest with yourself. If you haven’t made any changes towards success, reevaluate your goal, make adjustments and start fresh.

Whether it’s a trusted family member, friend or coworker, ask someone to hold you responsible for your progress or lack there of. This individual should be honest and encouraging.
