Dear Parents/Carers Inspire Year 11 – 12 Week Revision Programme: On Wednesday of this week all Year 11 pupils received a 12 week programme for pupils and parents to follow and help structure pupils’ revision and parents’ support. Pupils have been advised this is the minimum requirement so that they can revise all topics, but that we will need to revisit these topics as the weeks move on. The individual pupil examination timetables and the exam rules information will be sent out after the half-term, following final confirmation of arrangements from the exam boards. The document is on the web site in the examination section under both parents and pupils should you like further copies. Year 11 Rewards Trip: This Friday is our Rewards trip to Manchester for 56 of our Year 11 pupils. English 500 Words Competition Pupils in Years 7-9 have the opportunity to enter the BBC Radio 2 ‘500 Words’ short story competition. We submitted a number of entries last year and one pupil was successful in getting down to the last 200 in the country. Year 9 Maths Challenge Congratulations to the Year 9 Maths teams for coming 3rd in the Balshaws Maths Challenge last week. Wellfield was the only Leyland school placed and according to Mr Garland, our bright stars were leading for most of the competition. NSPCC Number Day This Friday we are asking pupils to wear a top with a number on and bring £1 to support the NSPCC Number Day. The Number Day focuses on increasing awareness of maths and raising monies for a worthwhile charity. Pupils will still wear their usual school uniform but are allowed to wear a numbered top as well. Mrs Jackson took assemblies last week to inform pupils in school. Challenge Return of the Friends of Wellfield Chocolate and Wine Bingo Night: Our PTA, Friends of Wellfield, are hosting a Wine and Chocolate Prize Bingo Night from 7.15 - 9.15 p.m. on Friday 18 March at Leyland RAF Club. All are welcome and there is a £1 entry fee; doors open 7 p.m. We are asking for donations for prizes for the night and would like pupils and parents to donate chocolate prizes or wine donations on Thursday 10 March. Parents Evenings Our next Parents evening is for Year 8 on Thursday 25 February, 4.30-6.30 p.m. Letters have been sent out from Mrs Yates. Pupils will then be expected to make appointments for their parents/carers.

Nurture: Amy Winehouse Foundation: This week, as part of our PSHE programme, we have had tutors from the Amy Winehouse Foundation working with pupils and talking to them about alcohol and drugs and making them aware of the risks around them. Healthy Relationships Day: This Friday pupils will learn more about Healthy Relationships with our partners from Clare House. This is a follow-on programme that we started last year and moves on every year dealing with age appropriate topics around healthy relationships. A message from the Pastoral Team Whilst the pastoral team endeavour to return calls to parents, in certain circumstances it is not always possible to return them on the same day due to teaching commitments, meetings, safeguarding issues etc. It may also be difficult for the Pastoral Team to meet with parents between 8.55-9.15 a.m. due to duties and assemblies. Please can parents bear this in mind when coming to the school reception as we do not like to turn parents away but our pupils must come first. Thank you for your continued support. Yours sincerely

Mr P Tolson Headteacher
