MSN Program Director Message

Autumn is the season of change, and so it is true at the College. I am happy to announce that we have hired a coordinator for the FNP program, Dr. Kim Udlis. She comes to us with extensive practice and educational experience. She is also an experienced administrator who will be ready to move the program ahead. At the same time, she will become the MSN program director and I will return to a faculty role, continuing to teach and work on some special initiatives at the College. The transition takes place on October 8. Dr. Udlis looks forward to getting acquainted with our MSN programs and with all of you. I wish the best for each of you, having immensely enjoyed working with you. Please keep in touch.

winter “…edu the sky’s the limit.” The adoption of the expression was no doubt influenced by the invention of the aeroplane. The phrase was picked up and used as the title of a Fred Astaire/Joan Leslie film at another time of intense interest in powered flight, in the middle of WWII - 1943.

who know you well and have a chance to see your leadership practices in action. Each instrument takes no more than 5 minutes to complete. All instruments are mailed back to the academic department for scoring by our staff. You will get a final report of the findings along with related materials to enhance your leadership skills. The College uses the aggregate data for program assessment purposes. These instruments are widely used in professional settings and have high reliability. As part of the assessment program, you are required to complete this process (see the MSN Student Handbook for graduation requirements). The results can be beneficial to you as you hone your leadership skills in new and varied professional settings. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Vera Dauffenbach. ● PRACTICUM INFORMATION Student’s who believe they will enroll in an educator practicum credits during Spring 2014, need to contact Dr. Vera Dauffenbach as soon as possible with the following information: 

LEADERSHIP PRACTICES INVENTORY  All graduates of Bellin College are required to participate in the assessment process. One part of the process is the submission of a final graduate portfolio. This is reviewed with your Leadership Integration Project (LIP) advisor in the weeks prior to graduation. Another aspect of the assessment program is completion of the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI), (Kouzes & Posner, 2004). All materials will be mailed to you along with detailed instructions. This inventory consists of two parts, the Self and the Other instruments. The Self Inventory is completed by you. The Other Inventory must be given to individuals

MSN STUDENT COMMUNIQUÉ Fall 2013 planning for quality learning experiences; therefore we require at least two months to begin planning for a practicum. Practicum Intent Forms are now available in MOODLE by clicking MSN resources under the MSN tab. Also included in MOODLE are all the necessary practicum forms. Please be aware that health and background check requirements must be met as well, and we will forward information to students including forms for the Greater Green Bay Heathcare Alliance as necessary, to complete that process. You may not begin a practicum until ALL requirements are complete and information is on file at the college. ● STUDENT ASSESSMENT PORTFOLIOS

Graduation requirements for all students involve participation in the assessment process at Bellin College. That process has been refined for MSN students and guidelines are available in the Student Handbook, Graduate Program, 2012-2013. The Handbook, in addition to the Student Portfolio and Outcome Packet, are available on the College website. Material provides information regarding the process and expected contents of the portfolio. Most importantly, it means that you should begin to think of what you will place in your portfolio and to keep those items (artifacts) in a form that is retrievable when the time comes. Some students have asked about the ability to retrieve material from MOODLE forums or journals. We are unable to do that for you so it is important you keep contemporaneous documents that you think you might need later. Once a course is closed, all material is removed from the site so all documents become your responsibility. When you are closer to graduation, your advisor will work closely with you to insure your portfolio is ready for submission.

INTENT TO GRADUATE FORM

Graduate students have two possible graduation dates: December and May. Graduation dates are established as the last day of the semester (December and May). Commencement occurs at the conclusion of the spring semester. Students who complete program requirements in December and May are invited to participate in the spring ceremony. Educator students who have a minimum of 34 credits completed at the conclusion of the spring semester may participate in the May commencement ceremony. However, students may not have more than one Leadership Integration Project (NUR 799) remaining to graduate and participate in the commencement ceremony. The one outstanding LIP credit must be completed in the 4 week extension immediately following the initial term in which the course was registered. (See the MSN Handbook for complete details). An “Intent to Graduate Form” must be completed by all eligible candidates by November 15, 2013 for December 2013 and May 2014 graduates.. Upon receipt of the intent form, the Registrar’s office performs a degree audit to verify that all requirements for graduation have been met. Forms can be accessed via the college website or from the Student Services Office. Diplomas are issued approximately one month following the commencement ceremony. ● INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY - Student Technology Requirements Microsoft Office 2010 is the current version of Office used by Bellin College.
