About VIT-Technology Business Incubator (VIT-TBI) The Management of VIT, under the dynamic leadership of the Chancellor Dr. G. Viswanathan has taken up the initiative to set up a Technology Business Incubator (TBI), first of its kind in this region, at the VIT Vellore campus. The mission of VIT-TBI is to promote entrepreneurship, incubate start-up ventures and offer technology development services to firms in the region. VIT-TBI is a joint initiative between the Department of Science & Technology and VIT. VIT-TBI has the state-of-the art machinery, equipment, computing facilities, communication networks, startup friendly infrastructure and individual incubation cells with common resource sharing arrangements to support budding entrepreneurs from among students and technocrats. VIT-Technology Business Incubator was the recipient of the National Award for the year 2008 by the NSTEDB division of Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. Rationale:
The need of the hour is to make Entrepreneurship development more effective by imparting relevant education that focuses in developing entrepreneurial competencies and skills to identify viable business opportunities, prepare business plans, understand sources of finance, mobilize resources and manage an enterprise. The most crucial change agents, however, in the process of developing young entrepreneurs are teachers with adequate skills, knowledge and information in the area of Entrepreneurship. Objectives:
The programme is designed to train professionals in Entrepreneurship development so that they can act as “Resource Persons” in guiding and motivating young students, particularly from science, engineering and technology streams to take up entrepreneurship as a career option. The specific objectives are to:
Expose the participating faculty members to the comprehensive Entrepreneurship development process and nuances.
Equip them with requisite skills, knowledge and competencies for effective initiation of Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps and Entrepreneurship Development courses in their institutions.
