EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Perform a variety of tasks in support of the repair and maintenance of the City’s water distribution and sewer collection systems. Locate reports of water/sewer line leak(s) and isolate the area(s). Use probing rods and dig with shovels to evaluate the problem(s), prepare area(s), and make necessary repairs. Assist in spotting the backhoe operator for repairs over three (3) feet deep. Inspect equipment daily to ensure proper operation prior to leaving for work site. Install new water/sewer lines, change water meters, and perform repairs of water/sewer services. Install fire hydrants and assist with preventative maintenance of hydrants, valves, and manholes. Assist other departments as needed. Work on special projects and perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
SALARY INFORMATION:
High school diploma or equivalent. Basic knowledge of maintenance and construction work and one (1) year related work experience required. Skilled in the use and care of various hand and power tools including power saws, cutting and tapping machines, jackhammers, ditch witch, hydrolift, confined space equipment, etc. Must be able to arrive at the work site within a thirty (30) minute response time when emergency situations occur. Ability to follow oral/written instructions, perform strenuous physical work under varying weather conditions, and interact with staff and the public in a courteous and professional manner. Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Must obtain TCEQ Class “D” Water/Wastewater certification within one (1) year of hire and Class “C” Water/Wastewater certification prior to Class “D” expiration.
$11.687 per hour starting salary
