H-FCTT-1 Purpose

Fuel Cell Technology Trainer

The Hampden Model H-FCTT-1 Fuel Cell Technology Trainer allows the student to create a grid independent power supply that uses only hydrogen as its fuel. The system familiarizes the student with fuel cell power supply technology, an environmentally friendly method of generating power directly from a hydrogen reaction. Fuel cells are the most promising alternate energy supply and are already being used in a number of areas, including automotive engineering and power generation systems. The Model H-FCTT-1 can also be connected to an external energy source, such as a solar panel or wind generator, for comparison between the different technologies. A switch located on the panel allows for switching between the fuel cell and an external source.

Model H-FCTT-1 Fuel Cell Technology Trainer Dimensions: 35”H x 56”W x 14”D Shipping Weight: 455 lbs

Description The Hampden Model H-FCTT-1 Fuel Cell Technology Trainer consists of a table-top unit with all components mounted on a steel panel. Meters located at critical points allow the student to monitor each step of the power generation/power distribution process. Pressure and flow of the hydrogen gas can be varied via a (PLC) programmable logic controller to analyze the effect on the power generated in different conditions. A DC motor and traffic light are provided for analysis of the power generated by the fuel cell when connected to a load. An electronic load is also provided that is capable of acting as a constant current or constant resistance device. The USB connection to the electronic load allows for interfacing to a computer to automatically record and plot voltage and current data. A fuel supply transfer switch is provided to allow the student to switch over to an alternate energy source, i.e., solar panel.

Specifications CONSTRUCTION The panel consistsof 11 gauge furniture grade steel, finished in baked-on gloss white enamel. The case and rear panel consist of 14 gauge furniture grade steel, finished in instrument tan texture enamel, with (4) rubber feet.

H-SHSP-1 Solar Heat and Solar Photovoltaic Trainer

Purpose Hampden Model H-SHSP-1 Solar Heat and Solar Photovoltaic Trainer is a fully mobile solar heat solar photovoltaic control system trainer which lets the student technician examine the hot water and electrical layouts and operational features normally associated with a solar heating system and photovoltaic power source. The trainer demonstrates the characteristics of the solar array, water heating, water circulation, storage battery, AC and DC distribution, and AC and DC loading. The complete water heating and charging sequence can be observed.

Description The H-SHSP-1 Solar System Trainer combines solar photovoltaic and solar hot water. The trainer can work as a self contained unit using energy from the sun to produce electricity and hot water. Electricity is created when the sun’s rays are collected by a solar photovoltaic panel. A charge controller controls the charging of a 12V DC battery. A 375W inverter changes the 12V DC to 120V AC. The solar hot water heater has a collector water pump and a domestic water pump. When a temperature differential between the collector loop and the domestic loop, which is set by the dial in the differential controller, is reached the collector water pump turns on. The collector loop water transfers the heat to the domestic loop water in the heat exchanger. As the domestic loop water heats up the collector loop water cools down until the collector water pump turns off. The domestic water pump continues running. The collector loop heats up again as long as the unit is in the sun. When it reaches the differential the cycle is repeated.

MODEL H-SHSP-1 Dimensions: 72"H x 48"W x 34"D Shipping Weight: 800 lbs.

H-HEAT-1 Home Efficiency Auditor Testing Facility

Description With today’s limited supply and rising costs of producing and delivering energy, there is an increased demand for building green buildings and retro-fitting existing buildings to be more environmentally friendly. By using recycled building materials, air tight construction, Energy Star rated appliances, modern refrigerants and HVAC controls along with multiple uses for resources, we can greatly reduce the amount of energy being used by the home owner. To this end there is now a great need for highly trained auditors that have the capability to perform detailed inspections and make cost effective recommendations on improving a homes efficiency. The Hampden MODEL H-HEAT-1 Home Efficiency Auditor Testing Facility is built to mimic an actual home with components used in a new GREEN home. The H-HEAT-1 will allow potential auditors to learn the proper techniques in performing a complete energy audit. Some of the areas covered are consistent data collection, insulation inspection, HVAC analysis, base load consumption, air leakage, energy usage, along with many more vital areas. Along with helping develop these skills the Hampden MODEL H-HEAT-1 is provided with an intricate fault package. This fault package will create a realistic situation that will require the auditor to diagnose the problem and specify maintenance or repair.
