ANTON DIABELLI OUVERTURE OP.26 Scored for: Guitar Price: 9€ Catalogue Number: EE1209 ISMN: 979-0-801297-16-7 Diabelli´s Ouverture is a magnificent work; a guitar piece inspired by Italian opera overtures, a feature very typical of 19th century guitar music (Giuliani´s Grand Overture op.61, Sor´s Grand Solo op.14, and Molino´s Grande Ouverture op.17 are similar contemporary pieces), it opens with a slow and grand introduction, followed by a lively and exciting sonata form. This new edition is based on the first edition, published in Vienna by Magasin de l´Imprimerie Chimique ca.1810.

ERIK SATIE GNOSIENNE Nº1 Scored for: Guitar Price: 5€ Catalogue Number: EE1213 ISMN: 979-0-801297-24-2 Composed around 1890, Satie´s first Gnosienne´s aesthetic matches perfectly well with that of the guitar. This arrangement has been made by Gonzalo Noqué.

2

JOSÉ BROCÁ SIX FANTASIES FOR GUITAR Scored for: Guitar Price: 24, 04€ Catalogue Number: EE1311 ISMN: 979-0-801297-59-4 Catalan guitarist José Brocá was a key figure of the pre-Tárrega guitar circle. This edition brings together Brocá´s six fantasies for guitar, charming and technically challenging, deeply intimate and expressive works, harmonically and formally classical, but whose melodic construction can be linked to the 19th Century Romanticism. Edited by Eugenio Tobalina and Josep Mª Mangado, includes a facsimile of the C major Fantasy.

FERDINAND REBAY FÜNF KLEINE VARIATIONEN Scored for: Guitar Price: 8,65€ Catalogue Number: EE1310 ISMN: 979-0-801297-58-7 Rebay´s delightful Variationen has lain neglected for a long time. Dated December 8, 1944, it is based on a Christmas song composed by Johann Abraham Peter Schulz (1747-1800). This edition is based on the autograph manuscript, housed in the Austrian National Library, in Vienna.

FERDINANDO CARULLI GRANDE SONATE Scored for: Guitar Price: 12,50€ Catalogue Number: EE1316 ISMN: 979-0-801297-64-8 This Grande Sonate is a fantastic one-movement piece, inspired (like Giuliani´s Grand Overture op.61 or Sor´s Grand Solo op.14) by Italian opera overtures, with a slow introduction followed by a buoyant sonata form. This new edition is based on a printed edition, published by Breitkopf & Härtel in 1832.

CARLOS PERÓN CANO OMNES PECCATA MUNDI Scored for: Guitar Price: 12,50€ Catalogue Number: EE1319 ISMN: 979-0-801297-67-9 Originally composed for piano in 2012, it is a piece deeply introspective and spiritual, and a work of grievous and sorrowful feeling. It could also be seen as a musical representation of the Christian idea of collective and original sin throughout history. With a pedal note which symbolizes the deepness of the matter, harmonic and melodic intervals unfold musical lines grouped in small cells and different textures, as a kind of yearning and choked speech. Carlos Perón Cano

4

CARLOS PERÓN CANO NECRONOMICÓN Scored for: Guitar Price: 12,50€ Catalogue Number: EE1320 ISMN: 979-0-801297-68-6 Composed in 2009 and commissioned by the guitarist Gabriel Estarellas, it was premiered in Madrid, at the Hall 400, in the Reina Sofía Museum, the 15th of November 2010. Focused in the guitar´s main note (E), the piece begins with a sort of rhythms while other notes are progressively added; contrasting sections with a clear rhythmic character alternate with the original texture. Written in atonal language, “Necronomicón” uses all kind of timbre and sound effects, displaying a wide color palette. The title makes reference to the H.P. Lovecraft´s fictional book, and its average duration is 5 minutes. Carlos Perón Cano

LOWELL DYKSTRA SONATA Scored for: Guitar Price: 18,27€ Catalogue Number: EE1321 ISMN: 979-0-801297-69-3 The guitar sonata was composed in the aftermath of serialism, in 1982. Already there were signs of the 'new tonality' but for many composers (including me) that was considered to be not-done. How things have changed since then. Although this sonata is not a strict serial composition, the sound and structure suggest to be so: wide intervals, dissonants, rhythmic / metric structures that are sometimes complex. These features make up a lively piece with contrasting elements, closely linked to the sound of the second half of the 20th century. Looking back on it now, nearly 30 years later, I can still say it hasn't lost its eloquence. Lowell Dykstra

DUO

JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH/ FERDINAND REBAY ANDANTE,

FROM THE ITALIAN CONCERTO BWV 971 Scored for: Oboe (Flute, Violin), Guitar Price: 9€ Catalogue Number: EE1203 ISMN: 979-0-801297-04-4 This marvelous movement fits perfectly with the oboe and guitar combination, recalling the quintessentially Baroque sonorities of sonatas for oboe and continuo. This new edition is based on a manuscript (probably in Gertha Hammerschmied´s hand), housed in the Rebay Collection from the Austrian National Library in Vienna.

FERDINAND REBAY SONATA Nº1, IN E MAJOR Scored for: Flute, Guitar Price: 19€ Catalogue Number: EE1204 ISMN: 979-0-801297-06-8 Ferdinand Rebay´s Sonata in E major is a masterpiece of the flute and guitar repertoire. This work is clearly characterized by its Neoclassical style: a marvelous sonata form movement opens the piece, followed by a short set of variations. 6

GIOACHINO ROSSINI/ ANTON DIABELLI OVERTURE, FROM LA GAZZA LADRA Scored for: Flute (violin), Guitar Price: 15€ Catalogue Number: EE1207 ISMN: 979-0-801297-12-9 This great arrangement from Rossini´s opera La Gazza Ladra, comes from a publication which included 16 numbers from the opera, arranged by Anton Diabelli. This new edition is based on the first edition, published in Vienna by Cappi und Diabelli ca.1820.

ANTON DIABELLI SERENADE OP.67 Scored for: Flute, Guitar Price: 19€ Catalogue Number: EE1208 ISMN: 979-0-801297-14-3 Diabelli´s Grande Serenade is a major work for flute and guitar, which opens with a sonata form movement, but ends up with a march, a typical serenade final movement. This new edition is based on the first edition, published in Vienna by Magasin del´Imprimerie Chimique ca.1813.

7

CARL MARIA VON WEBER DIVERTIMENTO “ASSAI FACILE” J.207 Scored for: Guitar, Piano Price: 13€ Catalogue Number: EE1216 ISMN: 979-0-801297-30-3 This is a charming piece written by a major composer. A tireless traveler, Weber used to write a journal, where he wrote: “Berlin, 1816, 30. Nov. 1. 2. 3. Dez.: “Am Divertimento gearbeitet”. We know therefore that this Divertimento was written between November 30th and December 3rd 1816, and acquired by the publisher Schlesinger in January. This new edition is based on a copy of the first edition, housed in the Austrian National Library, in Vienna, published by Ado.Mto. Schlesinger ca.1817-1818.

The third year displays less virtuosity and more experimentation and introversion, and this magical piece is noted for its intimate aesthetic, which matches perfectly well with that of the guitar. This arrangement has been made by Gonzalo Noqué.

FERDINAND REBAY SONATA Nº2, IN C MAJOR Scored for: Oboe, Guitar Price: 19€ Catalogue Number: EE1225 ISMN: 979-0-801297-47-1 Ferdinand Rebay´s Sonata in C major is a masterpiece of the scarce oboe and guitar repertoire. This work is clearly characterized by its contemplative and nostalgic style. A lyrical sonata form movement opens the piece, followed by a Mediterranean cantilena. A lively and energetic Scherzo and Trio precedes the final Rondo, full of harmonic and tempo changes. This new edition is based on Ferdinand Rebay´s manuscript, which is dated January the 1st 1942.

FERDINAND REBAY KLEINE MODERNE TANZ-SUITE Scored for: Viola, Guitar Price: 18,27€ Catalogue Number: EE1303 ISMN: 979-0-801297-51-8 Rebay´s delightful Kleine moderne Tanz-Suite is dated January 31, 1928, and it is made up of five 20th-century dance movements, which create a little gem of the scarce viola and guitar repertoire. This edition is based on the autograph manuscript, housed in the Austrian National Library, in Vienna.

10

FERDINAND REBAY ZWEI TANZWEISEN Scored for: Violoncello, Guitar Price: 18,27€ Catalogue Number: EE1305 ISMN: 979-0-801297-53-2 Rebay´s delightful Zwei Tanzweisen is dated January 29, 1931, and it is made up of two dance movements which create a little gem of the scarce violoncello and guitar repertoire. This edition is based on the autograph manuscript, housed in the Austrian National Library, in Vienna.

FERDINAND REBAY GROSSES DUO IN A MINOR Scored for: Guitar, Piano Price: 24, 04€ Catalogue Number: EE1312 ISMN: 979-0-801297-60-0 Rebay´s Grosses Duo is a magnificent addition to the piano and guitar repertoire. A masterpiece written in 1942, it opens with a large sonata form movement, with the guitar and the piano continuously exchanging roles. A graceful and delightful second movement follows, an arrangement of Rebay´s own Lied “Tiefste Sprache”, with the guitar providing arpeggio accompaniment for the piano, which joins the duo “singing” a nostalgic melody. A Rebayesque Scherzo and Trio precedes the Finale, a movement where bursting intensity and mysterious sections alternate. This new edition is based on Ferdinand Rebay´s manuscript, housed in the Austrian National Library.

11

FERDINAND REBAY EINE KLEINE PASSACAGLIA Scored for: 2 Guitars Price: 18,27€ Catalogue Number: EE1313 ISMN: 979-0-801297-61-7 Rebay´s kleine Passacaglia is a delightful neoclassical miniature, a set of variations over an ostinato bass which is played by the first guitar at the beginning of the piece. This new edition is based on a manuscript, probably written by Gertha Hammerschmied, and housed in the Moravian Museum, Department of the History of Music, in Brno.

JOHANN CHRISTIAN BACH A SONATA FOR THE GUITAR Scored for: Guitar, Violin Price: 14,42€ Catalogue Number: EE1315 ISMN: 979-0-801297-63-1 This new edition is based on a printed edition published c.1770 by Longman, Lukey & Co., and housed in the Mitchell Library, Glasgow. What instrument had Bach in mind is not clear, but the so called English Guitar seems like a likely candidate. A kind of cittern, the English Guitar was very popular in England from 1750 to 1850; with four paired courses and a single string, it was usually tuned in open C tuning, and used as a melodic instrument. This sonata is clearly intended for a pair of same-range melodic instruments, and could perfectly be played by different combinations, like two guitars, two flutes, two violins, flute and violin, etc.

12

FERDINAND REBAY VARIATIONEN ÜBER DAS ALTE VOLKSLIED “SCHNITTER TOD” Scored for: 2 Guitars Price: 18,27€ Catalogue Number: EE1314 ISMN: 979-0-801297-62-4 Rebay´s variations is a beautiful set of six variations on the folksong “Schnitter Tod”, the same folksong Brahms used twice for his Deutsche Volkslieder WoO32 and WoO34. This edition is based on a manuscript, probably written by Gertha Hammerschmied, and housed in the Moravian Museum, Department of the History of Music, in Brno.

FERDINAND REBAY HISTORISCHE SUITE Scored for: Flute, Guitar Price: 18,27€ Catalogue Number: EE1317 ISMN: 979-0-801297-65-5 Rebay´s delightful Historische Suite is dated December, 1930, and it is made up of five movements, each of them composed imitating the style of a particular composer, and progressively advancing in time; thus, an “a la Bach” prelude is followed by an elegant “a la Haydn” Minuet. An intense set of variations “a la Mozart” comes next, with both instruments exchanging roles, and a fiery “a la Beethoven” scherzo precedes the final Rondo, an “a la Schubert” delightful closing. This new edition is based on the autograph manuscript, housed in the Austrian National Library, in Vienna.

13

TRIO

FERDINAND REBAY KLEINE ELEGIE Scored for: 3 Guitars Price: 9€ Catalogue Number: EE1222 ISMN: 979-0-801297-42-6 Rebay´s Kleine Elegie is a beautiful miniature for three guitars, written in Rebay´s last year of life. This new edition is based on Ferdinand Rebay´s manuscript, which is dated February 10, 1953.

FERDINAND REBAY TRIO IN A MAJOR Scored for: Flute, Clarinet, Guitar Price: 28,85€ Catalogue Number: EE1302 ISMN: 979-0-801297-50-1 Rebay´s trio in A major is a masterpiece of the guitar repertoire which has lain neglected for almost a century. Dated 1941, it is cast in the traditional four–movement model, opening with a sonata form movement characterized by its neoclassical style. This is followed by the slow movement, an emotional cantinela. As usual with Rebay´s large-scale works, a deeply Austrian scherzo precedes the Finale, a perpetual movement “à la Weber”. This edition is based on the autograph manuscript, housed in the Austrian National Library, in Vienna.

14

LOUIS GLASS TRIO OP.76 Scored for: Violin, Viola, Guitar Price: 24,04€ Catalogue Number: EE1318 ISMN: 979-0-801297-66-2 An almost exact contemporary of Nielsen, Danish composer Louis Glass was deeply inspired by Schumann, Gade, Grieg, and Franck. This trio, written in 1934, is a major work in the guitar literature, at times somber and introspective, at times deeply lyrical and Nordic in character. This new edition is based on the autograph manuscript, housed in the Danish Royal Library, in Copenhagen.

FRANZ JOSEPH MOSER TRIO OP.84 Scored for: Flute, Viola, Guitar Price: 24,04€ Catalogue Number: EE1306 ISMN: 979-0-801297-54-9 Born in Vienna in 1880, Moser is a completely forgotten composer who worked as Theaterkapellmeister, piano accompanist and choirmaster. This trio is an important addition to the chamber music with guitar repertoire, and a crucial work which helps getting a better understanding of the guitar world outside the Segovia circle, which we are now beginning to fully appreciate. This edition is based on the autograph manuscript, housed in the Austrian National Library, in Vienna.

15

FOUR OR MORE INSTRUMENTS

FERDINAND REBAY QUARTET IN D MINOR Scored for: Violin, Viola, Violoncello, Guitar Price: 30€ Catalogue Number: EE1201 ISMN: 979-0-801297-00-6 Ferdinand Rebay´s Quartet in d minor is a masterpiece of the guitar repertoire. The guitar is perfectly blended in the ensemble, and the quartet is cast in the traditional four–movement model, opening with an epic sonata form movement. This is followed by the slow movement, an emotional lullaby with a dark and deeply Austrian central section. A Beethovenian scherzo precedes the grandiose set of variations which closes this monumental work. This new edition is based on Ferdinand Rebay´s manuscript, which is dated March 6, 1925.

FERDINAND REBAY QUARTET IN A MINOR Scored for: Flute, Guitar, Viola, Violoncello Price: 30€ Catalogue Number: EE1202 ISMN: 979-0-801297-02-0 Ferdinand Rebay´s Quartet in a minor is, like the d minor quartet, a masterpiece of the guitar repertoire. Probably influenced (at least regarding the choice of instruments) by Schubert´s quartet D96 (scored for the same combination), the quartet opens with a large sonata form movement of Wagnerian flavor (a quote from Wagner´s Tannhäuser can be clearly heard at the beginning). A dramatic set of variations follows, and the deeply Austrian Scherzo and Trio (with its popular Ländler) precedes the final Rondo, where references to Hungarian music and Schubert´s “Divertissement à la hongroise” D818 predominates. This new edition is based on Ferdinand Rebay´s manuscript, which is dated 1942.

16

FERDINAND REBAY KLEINE FANTASIE Scored for: Guitar, String Quartet Price: 19€ Catalogue Number: EE1205 ISMN: 979-0-801297-08-2 Ferdinand Rebay´s delightful Kleine Fantasie has lain neglected for a long time. It is based on Brahms´ Lied “O wüsst´ ich doch den Weg zurück” op.63, nº 8. Intense and dense string passages alternate with solo guitar sections, creating a lyrical and deeply romantic masterpiece of the guitar repertoire. This new edition is based on Ferdinand Rebay´s manuscript, which is dated May 8, 1939.

FRANZ XAVER SÜSSMAYR SERENADE (QUINTET) SMWV 601 Scored for: Violin, Guitar, Oboe, English Horn, Violoncello Price: 25€ Catalogue Number: EE1215 ISMN: 979-0-801297-28-0 Süssmayr´s Serenade is a unique and special work in the guitar repertoire: not only was composed in a time (probably between 1793 and 1797 in Vienna) when chamber works with guitar were still scarce, but it was also written for a peculiar instrumental combination. It is also one of the few examples of a truly classical style work involving the guitar, and composed (an unusual case in 18th and 19th centuries) by a non-guitarist composer. This new edition is based on the autograph manuscript, housed in the British Library, in London

17

FERDINAND REBAY QUINTET IN D MAJOR Scored for: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet (in Bflat and A), 2 Guitars Price: 30€ Catalogue Number: EE1221 ISMN: 979-0-801297-40-2 Rebay´s quintet in D major is a masterpiece of the guitar repertoire which has lain neglected for almost a century. It is cast in the traditional four–movement model, opening with a sonata form movement characterized by its neoclassical style. This is followed by the slow movement, an emotional set of variations. A deeply Austrian scherzo precedes the lively rondo which closes this monumental work. This new edition is based on Ferdinand Rebay´s manuscript, which is dated 1941.

FERDINAND REBAY SEPTET IN A MINOR Scored for: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet (in Bflat and A), Horn, Bassoon, 2 Guitars. Price: 30€ Catalogue Number: EE1224 ISMN: 979-0-801297-46-4 Rebay´s septet in A minor is a masterpiece of the guitar repertoire which has lain neglected for almost a century. It is cast, as usual with Rebay´s large- scale works, in the traditional four–movement model, opening with a sonata form movement characterized by its epic style. This is followed by the slow movement, deeply romantic and using Wagnerian harmonies. A playful scherzo precedes the rondo which closes this great work. This new edition is based on the autograph manuscript, housed in the Rebay Collection from the Austrian National Library in Vienna.

18

FERDINAND REBAY VARIATIONEN ÜBER EIN “WEIHNACHTSLED” VON J.V.V.WÖSS Scored for: Guitar, String Quartet Price: 19€ Catalogue Number: EE1226 ISMN: 979-0-801297-48-8 Rebay´s delightful Variationen has lain neglected for a long time. It is based on a Christmas song composed by Johann Venantius von Wöss (1863-1943), Austrian composer and Universal Edition editor. This new edition is based on the autograph manuscript, which is dated January 12, 1937.

FERDINAND REBAY THREE BALLADS Scored for: 4 Guitars Price: 18,27€ Catalogue Number: EE1307 ISMN: 979-0-801297-55-6 These three ballads are wonderful miniatures which make a great addition to the guitar quartet repertoire. They are dated February 20, March 14, and February 16, 1950, respectively, and they are all inspired by the writings of Hermann Löns (1866- 1914), probably the main German folksong writer of his time. This edition is based on the autograph manuscripts, housed in the Austrian National Library, in Vienna.

19

VOCAL MUSIC FERDINAND REBAY DIE SONNE SCHEINT NICHT MEHR/ DA UNTEN IM TALE [WOO33/5&6] Scored for: Voice, Guitar Price: 7€ Catalogue Number: EE1206 ISMN: 979-0-801297-10-5 These marvelous songs come from Brahms´ “Deutsche Volkslieder” WoO 33 collection, published in 1890; Rebay´s arrangement is dated November 30, 1938, and is a wonderful addition to the voice and guitar repertoire. This new edition is based on Ferdinand Rebay´s manuscript, housed in the Austrian National Library.

LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN AN DIE GELIEBTE WOO 140 Scored for: Voice, Guitar Price: 7€ Catalogue Number: EE1212 ISMN: 979-0-801297-22-8 Beethoven´s Lied “An die Geliebte” is the only guitar piece composed by Beethoven which could maybe be claimed as “original”. Composed in 1811, it was published much later, in 1826, with guitar o piano accompaniment. Beethoven revised the song in 1814, and subsequently a second version was published in 1814, just with piano accompaniment. Beethoven´s manuscript of the first version includes this remark in the upper right corner: “Den 2tn März, 1812 mir vom Author erbethen” ("Requested by me from the author on 2 March 1812”). The handwriting has been identified as Antonie Brentano´s, a fact that has led to think that the song was composed for her. Brentano was, among other things, a guitarist, and has been identified by Maynard Solomon as the “Immortal beloved”. Having in mind that she played the guitar and the fact that this song was probably composed for her, it is plausible to believe that a guitar accompaniment was intended or at least accepted by Beethoven, and that maybe Brentano made the guitar arrangement. This edition is based on a copy of the 1826 edition, published by Gombart.

20

FRANZ SCHUBERT SIX SONGS OP.118 Scored for: Voice, Guitar Price: 15€ Catalogue Number: EE1214 ISMN: 979-0-801297-26-6 Like many of Schubert´s songs, op.118 was published posthumously: Joseph Czerny published the piano version in 1829 with the plate number 341, and the guitar version was published ca.1830, with the plate number 703. Schubert´s relationship with the guitar has already been analyzed, but it is difficult to arrive at a definite conclusion. What seems true is the fact that guitar accompaniment was a common practice in Biedermeier Vienna, and it is hard to believe that Schubert did not approve it. This new edition is based on a copy of the above-mentioned edition, housed in the British Library, published by Joseph Czerny with the following title: “Sechs Gedichte mit Begleitung der Guitare 118tes Werk”.

CARL MARIA VON WEBER III CANZONETTI OP.29 (J.108, 124 AND 120) Scored for: Voice, Guitar or Piano Price: 14,42€ Catalogue Number: EE1304 ISMN: 979-0-801297-52-5 Carl Maria von Weber is best known today as the leading exponent of the 19th century German opera before Wagner, but he was also a guitarist who used the instrument to accompany himself and composed several songs with guitar accompaniment. This edition is based on a copy of the first edition, housed in the British Library, in London, published by Haas in Prague.

21

FRANZ SCHUBERT TWO SONGS OP.43 Scored for: Voice, Guitar Price: 14,42€ Catalogue Number: EE1301 ISMN: 979-0-801297-49-5 Anton Pennauer published the piano version of these songs in 1825 with the plate number 136, and the guitar version was published later, with the plate number 169. Schubert´s relationship with the guitar has already been analyzed, but it is difficult to arrive at a definite conclusion. What seems true is the fact that guitar accompaniment was a common practice in Biedermeier Vienna, and it is hard to believe that Schubert did not approve it. This new edition is based on a copy of the above-mentioned edition, housed in the Austrian National Library, published by Anton Pennauer with the following title: “Gesänge für eine Singstimme mit Begleitung der Guitarre von F.Schubert”.

This new edition is based on the first edition, published in Paris by Naderman in 1809.

FERDINANDO CARULLI CONCERTO OP.8[A] (PIANO REDUCTION) Scored for: Guitar, Piano Price: 20€ Catalogue Number: EE1211 ISMN: 979-0-801297-20-4

23

GIUSEPPE MALERBI CONCERTO IN D MAJOR Scored for: Guitar, 2 Oboes, 2 Horns (in D), Strings Price: 25€ Catalogue Number: EE1219 ISMN: 979-0-801297-36-5 Born in 1771, Malerbi was one of Rossini´s first teachers. Malerbi´s output is essentially associated with the tradition of religious contrapuntal music, and this concerto is an interesting exception which constitutes an important addition to guitar concerto repertoire. The solo instrument called for in the manuscript is a “chitarra francese”, a term use for the then new six single- string guitar which was replacing the five courses baroque guitar. This new edition is based on the autograph manuscript, housed in the “Biblioteca Comunale Trisi di Lugo”, in Ravenna (Italy).

GIUSEPPE MALERBI CONCERTO IN D MAJOR (PIANO REDUCTION) Scored for: Guitar, Piano Price: 20€ Catalogue Number: EE1220 ISMN: 979-0-801297-38-9
