KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Teepa Snow, an occupational therapist, currently works as a dementia care and dementia education specialist, providing educational and training sessions to organizations and providers across the country. She also has clinical appointments with Duke University’s School of Nursing and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill’s School of Medicine. She works closely with several assisted living and retirement communities, hospice and day Teepa L Snow, service programs, and dementia specialty service MS,OTR/L, FAOTA providers to improve and optimize programs and services to people with dementia and their families. Teepa has over 30 years of experience in geriatrics. Previously, she served as the education director and lead trainer for the Alzheimer’s Association, Eastern North Carolina Chapter.
William B. Orr, Ph.D., M.D.
Dr. Orr, a neuroscientist and geriatric psychiatrist, works with people with dementia in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He is founder and director of the Orr Memory and Geriatric Behavioral Clinic in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, as well as Director of two acute inpatient geriatric behavioral units. Dr. Orr also consults for various long term care groups who provide assessment in assisted living and skilled nursing centers. His primary clinical interests are in early detection of dementia, differentiation from depression in the elderly and management of agitation.
PRESENTERS Bill Connett is an acoustic singer/songwriter. Bill was a founding member of a popular folk band at Harvard called Granfalloon during 1969-1972. He is also a recipient of the 2001, 2002, and 2003 Iowa Arts Council grant for the Music In Healing program. Scott Hartsook is the Managing Attorney of the Legal Hotline for Older Iowans. The Legal Hotline is a project of Iowa Legal Aid that provides free legal advice to Iowans who are 60 or older. Scott has managed the Legal Hotline since 1997 and has been an attorney with Iowa Legal Aid since 1988. Beth Powell is a leader in using the science of nutrition and movement to enhance living and learning. She is passionate about empowering individuals of all ages to know and express the value of their life by singing their heart song. This song rings out for all those around them to hear and recognize. She is a joyful wife and mother who is thankful she found and now sings her heart song for all the world to hear. Heidi Smith is the Director of Programs and Services at the Brain Injury Association of Iowa and has been there since November 2009. She oversees the Neuro-Resource Facilitation Program as well as provides trainings to providers of brain injury services across Iowa. Heidi holds a bachelors degree with a double major in Psychology and Human Services from Buena Vista University, graduating Cum Laude.
