LAND SURVEYING → GEOMATICS TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES AND PROFESSIONAL ASPECTS This presentation embarks on a historical review of surveying in Northeast BC, highlights some achievements by early Land Surveyors well-known to this area, and leads into the definition and scope of Geomatics as a modern profession. Recent advances in technology will be described including Robotic instrument technology and the various GPS methods; as well as the latest in data management, Geographic Information Systems and mapping technology. The use of LIDAR data and government resources will also be discussed. The professional governance structure including entry standards, ethics, code of conduct and guiding statutes and legislation will be reviewed; and educational programs in BC will be highlighted. Instruments and maps will be on display and handouts made available.
