CHILDREN'S BUREAU The Children's Bureau will expand their Early Learning Community Enrichment Program and will use the Protective Factors model as a framework to support families in the East Hollywood area. There will be two main components to the program: 1)Center-based Family Enrichment Groups: Parents with infants and toddlers 0-3 years of age will participate in structured groups designed to nurture the parent/child bond, strengthen knowledge of parenting skills and child development and increase social connections between at-risk families. Community-based Family Enrichment Groups: A select group of parents that have participated in the center-based groups will be trained as Early Learning Educators/Advocates in order to implement enrichment groups in their neighborhood. COMMUNITY PARTNERS The Community Partners fiscal sponsor for Los Angeles Perinatal Mental Health Task Force who will enhance and expand upon the activities that it has successfully implemented in the Metro LA catchment area across all of LA County. The Perinatal Depression Systems Improvement Project, which will operate over two years, aims to improve the ability of health and human service providers within Los Angeles County to prevent, diagnose and treat perinatal depression and to empower consumers to recognize the signs of perinatal depression and encourage women who are suffering to seek treatment. EL NIDO FAMILY CENTERS El Nido Family Centers will implement a Teen Family Safety Net Services program that uses a model team approach to achieve the following goals; Ensure Health Care Access and Maximize Health Outcomes ( i.e., ensure that all babies and teens will be connected with a medical home); Prevent Subsequent Pregnancies in Adolescence (i.e., teens will be connected with reproductive health care); Promote Child Safety and Family Functioning (i.e., by assessing and addressing the home environment and other critical supports) and Increase School Enrollment and High School Graduation for Parents.
LOS ANGELES BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE AT HARBOR-UCLA MEDICAL CENTER The project will train staff to instruct parents about safe sleep and strategies for coping with Safe Sleeping Practices infant crying. The project will ensure that parents sign an attestation that they have received and Shaken Baby such training and will implement these safe practices in their homes. In addition, a series of Syndrome Pilot nursing and social work training conferences will be held to educate other community stakeholders about the same with an overall goal of reducing Shaken Baby Syndrome and unsafe sleeping practices.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH TASK FORCE (#00790) The LA County Perinatal Mental Health Taskforce will work to increase screening and treatment resources for prenatal and postpartum depression in obstetrical, primary care and pediatric settings in Los Angeles County by developing and advocating for public policies at the county, state and national levels that support perinatal depression screening and treatment for up to one year postpartum. ADVANCEMENT PROJECT (#00788) The Advancement project will build support for and promote the School Readiness Language Policy Advocacy Fund: Development Program (SRLDP) and other ECE programs at LAUSD as the district considers cuts to Ensuring Kindergarten 25,000 preschool slots. Advocacy efforts would support educating LAUSD leadership about the Readiness benefits of ECE programs and mobilizing stakeholders and families served. CALIFORNIA FOOD POLICY ADVOCATES (#00780) California Food Policy Advocate will work to increase the number of 0-5 year olds enrolled in the Cal Policy Advocacy Fund: Fresh program in LA County. This will be done by enhancing enrollment procedures for applicants Nutrition for LA Families not applying at an office in person; by guaranteeing Medi-Cal and Healthy Families recipients are enrolled in Cal Fresh; and by utilizing ECE facilities as enrollment points for Cal Fresh. CRYSTAL STAIRS, INC. (#00779) Policy Advocacy Fund: Crystal Stairs will develop, empower and mobilize a grassroots network of parent advocates from Community Voices- LA across LA County, called Community Voices - Los Angeles, to advocate against ECE cuts and in County Advocacy support of other ECE opportunities to policy makers in LA County and Sacramento. Project SPECIAL NEEDS NETWORK (#00785) Special Needs Network will advocate for legislation that will require certain childcare providers to attend trainings related to the identification, referral and intervention for children in childcare centers Policy Advocacy Fund: who have, or are at risk of having, a developmental and/or learning disability as a prerequisite to Stepping Stones licensing for those childcare providers. THE ADVANCEMENT PROJECT (#00742) The Advancement Project proposes to advocate for greater usage of LAUSD funds for preschool facilities or when necessary protect those spaces that exist. They will also be working to locate an Educare facility in an area that is lacking ECE facilities as a model for how these facilities can benefit underserved communities. CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL LOS ANGELES (#00745) Children's Hospital Los Angeles has formed the Health Provider Alliance for Children (HPAC). The goal of HPAC is to train, empower and mobilize healthcare providers to advocate for achieving universal, comprehensive, and affordable health care coverage for all children. MATERNAL CHILD HEALTH ACCESS (#00726) Maternal and Child Health Access is doing policy and advocacy work to increase access to dental benefits for pregnant women through public and private health programs.
COMMUNITY COALITION (#00725) Community Coalition is organizing Kinship families in South LA to work with the Department of Children and Family Services to help the Department provide more effective services for these families. BREASTFEEDING TAKSFORCE OF GREATER LOS ANGELES (#00724) The Breastfeeding Taskforce of Greater Los Angeles will be working on helping hospitals achieve babyfriendly status and advocating to expand and streamline Medi-Cal regulations that support low-income mother's efforts to breastfeed. LOS ANGELES GAY AND LESBIAN CENTER (#00713) After identifying the adoption sector as an area where LGBT families experience difficulties, the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center has chosen to work with the Department of Children and Family Services to help develop policies that will allow the department to be encouraging of LGBT families wishing to adopt. URBAN INSTITUTE (#07502) This is an evaluation of the strategies implemented in the Best Start Metro LA pilot community. Evaluation results will inform the development and implementation of Best Start LA in other communities across Los Angeles County.
