Algebra Section 6.6 ____________________________________ Start Thinking: How do you graph a compound inequality? What is the significance of the shading?

Compound Inequalities: _________________________________________

Example: -2
Systems of Linear Inequalities: ___________________________________________________________________ 1

𝑦 < −2𝑥 + 4

Example:

y > 3x -5

STEPS: 1.) 2.) 3.)

Graph the following system: 1.) 𝑦 < −

2𝑥 3

and -5x – 2y>10

2.) x > -2 and 4x -3y <-12

Write a system for the following graph. 1.)

2.)

APPLICATIONS: 1.)A friend makes $15 per hour at his first job and $11 per hour at his second job. His goal is to make at least $600 per week. He does not want to work any more than 55 hours in a week. Write a system of inequalities for the given situation and graph the inequalities.

2.)A woman is purchasing fruit for some pies she is making for a party. She wants to purchase at least 10 pounds of strawberries and blueberries. Strawberries are sold for $2 per pound, and blueberries are sold for $3 per pound. She does not want to spend more than $25 total for the fruit. Write a system of inequalities for the given situation and graph the inequalities.

Be sure to complete the following before coming to class. 1.) Graph the following y < 3x – 4 and -7x- 2y > -14

2.) What is the inequalities that come together to make the following graph?
