The Arc of the Capital Area PERSONNEL Policies 7.4 Tobacco-Free Property I.

PURPOSE

This policy has been established to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of our employees, and the public who we serve, and to manage tobacco in the workplace. II.

SCOPE

This policy applies to all The Arc of the Capital Area’s employees, volunteers, interns, vendors, clients, and guests. III.

POLICY

In supporting the intent to provide a safe and healthy work environment, the use of tobacco products, such as cigars, pipes, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, vaping or electronic cigarettes is prohibited during work time and on the property of The Arc of the Capital Area. Tobacco or vaping use is not permitted inside any Arc building, employee vehicle while working, indoor areas, meeting rooms, lunchrooms, restrooms, Arc of the Arts, or other areas of the workplace. IV.

PROCEDURE A. Enforcement of the tobacco-free policy is the responsibility of all The Arc of the Capital Area employees. Employees are encouraged to communicate this policy with courtesy and respect to all visitors. If difficulties arise with enforcement, staff should notify the Chief Executive Officer. B. Signs stating the tobacco-free policy will be clearly posted. C. Incidents of on-site tobacco use or vaping by employees after October 12, 2011 may be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including termination. D. Employee problems regarding tobacco use or vaping in work areas will be resolved at the supervisory level. Otherwise, such problems will be resolved by the Chief Executive Officer. this policy will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including immediate termination of employment. E. The Arc of the Capital Area cares about the health of its employees and encourages all employees to quit using tobacco or vaping products. Quitting tobacco reduces the incidence of heart attacks, lung cancer, oral cancer, and other serious and costly illnesses, including those caused by second-hand smoke.
