Understanding historical inter-generational trauma for today’s practice

Dr Rawiri Waretini-Karena (Ngāti Mahanga/ Waikato-Tainui & Ngāpuhi Nui Tonu)

& Dr Ingrid Huygens (Dutch, Pākehā)

Wednesday 27 September 2017, 9am-5pm Anglican Action Conference Room, Te Ara Hou Village, 100 Morrinsville Road, Hamilton In Part III of our series on strengths-based approaches to the Māori-Pakeha relationship, this workshop deepens understanding of how colonisation has affected Māori whanau, and underlying contributing factors that affect their health and wellbeing today. Dr Rawiri Waretini-Karena will personalise his doctoral research into inter-generational impacts of colonisation, and identify helpful responses. Practitioners and policy makers will gain insights into how trauma can be approached without activating a deficit perspective. Structured discussion groups will allow participants to consider and update their practice and policy. Please note: Attendance at Part I and II of our series is not a prerequisite for this workshop. Registrants will be expected to view a one hour online webinar in preparation for the workshop in which Ingrid Huygens & colleague review strengths in the MāoriPakeha relationship leading up to the Treaty of Waitangi. http://connect.englishlanguage.org.nz/p5s2o79swxd/?launcher=false&fcsContent=t rue&pbMode=normal For more information and to register for this event please click on this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/understanding-historical-inter-generational-traumafor-todays-practice-tickets-35443732157
