September 2016 Calendar of Events North Shore Region September 7 (Wednesday): GO Meeting “Coffee with Christie”: Carol Tisdale, Outreach Coordinator from the Louisiana Relay Service will discuss making telephone conversations possible for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have difficulty speaking on the phone. Ochsner Health Center COVINGTON, 2nd floor Training Room, 10:00 am to 11:30 am. RSVP REQUIRED September 8 (Thursday): GO Meeting “Coffee with Christie”: “Low Carb - Good for Everyone, With or Without Diabetes” presented by Doraine Woods, RN, BSN, MS, CDE, WCC, DWC. Ochsner Medical Center-North Shore, 100 Medical Center Drive, Camellia Room, SLIDELL, 9:30 am to 11:00 am. RSVP REQUIRED September 9 (Friday): Mardi Gras Creations and Esplanade Mall Shopping bus trip. $25pp. Tour the largest Mardi Gras costume making facility in the South. Witness designers working from the ground up on costume designs. See seamstresses fabricating Kings, Queens and Court members’ costumes, wire workers bending and sculpting wire to the shape of the collars and headpieces and decorators putting all the glitz and glamour on finished costumes. We will also visit The Esplanade, Kenner's premier shopping destination with over 80 shopping, dining and entertainment options, including Macy's, Target, Dillard's, Old Navy, and much more! Lunch will be on your own at The Esplanade's Food Court or at one of the nearby restaurants such as Olive Garden, Copeland’s or Zea’s. Departure from OHC-Covington at 8:45am, return at 3:30pm. RSVP REQUIRED September 14 (Wednesday): LUNCH AND LEARN “Louisiana Living” presented by Leslie Tassin. Keith Young’s Steakhouse, 165 Highway 21, Madisonville (985-845-9940). Leslie is a native of Avoyelles Parish and is a noted humorist and historian of Louisiana culture. He talks about the history, geography, culture and people in a positive manner all along telling jokes (true stories) about Louisiana. 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. $28 pp. Lunch choices include crab cakes, chicken Florentine or tilapia (will order at event). RSVP REQUIRED September 15 (Thursday) Carnival Triumph Information meeting. Get together with your fellow travelers to talk about our upcoming cruise! Ochsner Health Center - COVINGTON, 2nd floor Training Room, 10:00 am to 11:30 am. September 20 (Tuesday): National Shrine of Father Seelos bus trip #2. Lunch at Superior Seafood Restaurant. Indicate choice of entrée on check: Shrimp & Grits, Tchoupitoulas Chicken or Blackened Fish Napoleon. $60pp. Departure from OHC-Covington at 8:30am with pickup in Slidell at 9:00am, return at 5:30pm.
