Amsys Training Mac OS X 10.7 to 10.8 Support Essentials Upgrade Duration 1 Day, Cost £375 + £101 for exam Course Description Mac OS X Support Essentials v10.7 to v10.8 Upgrade is a one-day hands-on course which focuses on the new features found in Mac OS X 10.8 and the Mac OS X Support Essentials 10.8 exam. The course will focus on key points of the chapters outlined below. This course is only open to delegates who already hold the Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) certification for OS X 10.7 Prerequisites Students should have the following prerequisite knowledge prior to attending this course: • Completion of the Mac OS X Support Essentials v10.7 course and exam Apple Certified Support Professional exam The Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) 10.8 certification is granted on successful completion of the OS X Support Essentials v10.8 exam. Course Overview • Installation: Prepare and partition the drive, install OS X Mountain Lion, use the installer log files to verify a successful installation, booting to the Recovery partition, configure OS X Mountain Lion with the Setup Assistant, installing configuration profiles, tips and techniques for troubleshooting an installation problem. • Users Accounts: Create and manage user accounts, create and manage administrator accounts, locate directory attributes, security, resetting passwords and managing Keychain passwords. • File Systems: File systems supported by OS X Mountain Lion, Disk Utility and file repair. Full disk encryption via Filevault 2. File sharing permissions and troubleshooting. • Data Management: The root volume, file system layout, preferences, managing hidden items, file types unique to OS X Mountain Lion (i.e., resource forks and packages), Spotlight, file archives, disk images. archiving and restoring data with Time Machine, managing backup data, how to access the data outside of Time Machine. • Applications and Processes: Applications supported in OS X Mountain Lion, process security, installation and troubleshooting of applications, uninstalling applications, managing Gatekeeper, advanced features such as auto save, versions, resume and iCloud integration. • Network Configuration: Basic networking configuration, TCP/IP networking, Ethernet, AirPort, multiple network connections, appropriate use of network locations, isolating and troubleshooting network elements. • Network Services: Connecting to common network resources, AFP, SMB, SSH, FTP, and WebDAV connections, Bonjour, NetBIOS, the network browser, isolating client software issues from network issues. Enabling network services on a OS X Mountain Lion client, peer-to-peer collaboration, screen sharing, firewall as well as techniques to isolate server issues from client and network issues. • Peripherals and Printing: Connecting peripherals to a Mac, cabling, connections, device drivers for common peripherals,managing printers, print-job management, printer PPDs and PDF workflow, techniques for isolating cabling, driver, or application issues. • Systems Startup: Troubleshooting boot issues with a Mac at startup, phases of the startup process, which part of the system is active during each phase, issues that can arise, automatic process launching with launchd and login window startup items.
