Students Accelerating In Learning, or SAIL, is an advanced class in reading and writing for students attending Lakewood Elementary School. Students who qualify for the SAIL program begin working with the SAIL teacher informally beginning in kindergarten and formally in third through fifth grade. Lakewood’s SAIL program was established to meet the needs of the academically advanced student.

What is IB? IB is an approach to teaching that engages students actively, while encouraging them to think deeply and take action in their own lives. Students become internationally-minded thinkers who ask questions and seek answers with a global perspective. The IB Program fosters a love for learning by nurturing students’ natural curiosity. The curriculum is a rigorous, inquiry-based program, that empowers students to take action. Who is IB for? IB is a program that all students who attend Great Lakes get the benefit of being a part of. What makes IB special? Students learn through inquiry based projects which increases their engagement. The entire school day is connected, so students’ learning transfers over to all subject areas. How long has the program existed at Great Lakes? In May, Great Lakes Elementary will celebrate its three-year birthday as an official IB World School! How can you learn more about the IB Program? Contact Principal Dave Stefanich.
