[email protected] Salary Range - $90,151 to $127,271 The Department of Corrections is committed to the provision of high quality psychological approaches to the management of offending behaviour and is recognised as an internationally leader in this field. This position will suit applicants with considerable practice experience as a psychologist working in the criminal justice setting. This Senior Advisor position offers a unique opportunity to take up a role in a clinical leadership position with clear opportunities for career development and progression within both Psychological Services and the Department of Corrections. The Senior Adviser Psychology provides information and advice to key internal and external stakeholders on matters related to the delivery of high quality psychological services to offenders. In this role you will respond to queries from regional and Special Treatment Unit (STU) staff regarding psychological processes, and maintain and update key operational documents including the Psychologist’s Practice Centre used by Psychologists who work with offenders in the community, mainstream prisons and Special Treatment Units. As part of our commitment to support best practice psychological services, an important part of this role will be to complete reviews of high level Extended Supervision Order and Section 88 psychological health assessments that will be submitted to the Courts. The successful candidate will have considerable experience in completing high level psychological assessments for Courts and also carry experience of supervision and quality systems associated with ensuring best practice on such work. The successful applicant will be an experienced Senior Registered Psychologist and have a track record of training and supporting staff in their clinical practice and will be able to apply these skills to assist Senior Psychologists in their own high level work. This position will work closely with the Manager Practice Design and Development and teams responsible for managing high risk offenders to deliver and develop high quality services that support and continue to improve important efforts maintaining public safety. A key part of this role is to also review Court and Parole Board decisions as well as legislative changes and provide advice as to how this might relate to psychological best practice.
The role will also require you to respond to requests from other agencies, making sound recommendations, ensuring the quality and integrity of the delivery of psychological services and provision of information about individual offenders. This role offers an opportunity to join a busy team of experienced psychologists who provide clinical leadership to one of the largest groups of psychologists in New Zealand.
