The Department of Corrections employs approximately 180 Psychologists who work around the country with people on sentences in the community and in custody. Our Psychologists have a strong professional identity and work with the most complex people in our care. This position presents the opportunity to leverage your practise experience and broaden your skill base by moving into a nationally focused role. In this role you will drive the strategic and operational decisions for our Special Treatment Units (STU’s) and ensure consistency of best practice nationally. (STU's deliver evidence-based and culturally informed intervention for the highest risk people in the Departments care and are based on principles of therapeutic communities). Use your clinical practise knowledge to take a high level strategic approach to influence the direction of STU professional practice. You will monitor STU’s on adherence to procedural guidelines/policy and standards for the provision of quality psychological services. In addition you will also ensure that we are responding to the cultural needs of the people in our care, particularly Maori. Key responsibilities will encompass:      

Professional practice enhancement and support Professional leadership Strategy and planning Risk management Stakeholder engagement Quality assurance

We are looking for a psychologist with exceptional relationship management skills who can establish credibility to lead, influence and engage with all stakeholders and implement change initiatives. In this influential role you will work with a wide range of people including National Office staff, Regional Management, our exceptional psychological staff and external stakeholders and providers. This will be a stimulating and highly rewarding role for a registered Psychologist. Ideally you will have had experience working within an STU or similar therapeutic community. Based in National Office, travel throughout New Zealand will be required on a regular basis. All applications must be submitted online via our recruitment system.
