Welcome Welcome to another great selection of award-winning day tours! Planning a programme for the winter months is always a challenge. Those dark nights and dreary days can all be so depressing if you stay at home. So, we’ve worked extra hard to come up with some super ideas – and more of our great value Special Offers – to make sure you’ve got something to look forward to! We’ve also been working hard to create a fabulous new programme of Door-2-Door holidays for 2016 with exciting, new destinations and, as always, meticulously planned itineraries with lots of ‘little extras’ to make our tours extra special just for you! If you haven’t travelled with us before, why not come along to our Coffee Morning in Maxey on January 12th (see page 20). Have a chat and meet the team – it’s always good to talk – and you can see our new 2016 Holiday Presentation!

GROUP BOOKINGS – LUCKY 13! Book just 12 places for any one day tour at the same time you can enjoy the 13th place FREE (for concert and theatre tours, your free place will be for the coach seat only)! It’s perfect for clubs and organisations that may be too small to arrange their own outings – or you can gather together a group of friends and share out the saving! Please make your group booking direct with us. We also welcome group bookings on our holidays and short breaks (also to be booked direct) and you only need to book 10 places on any one of our ‘Door-2-Door’ tours to claim a FREE holiday!

‘FARE ONLY’ DEALS If you have your own tickets for an event or you’re looking for a convenient way to visit friends or family, ask for a ‘Fare only’ seat. They’re available on many of our all-inclusive packages, most day trips to London, events and concerts – and for visits to National Trust, English Heritage, HHA and RHS properties.

ABOUT US We’ve been in business since 1922 – still family-owned and always very proud of our reputation for consistently delivering a top quality service to all our customers for over 90 years! And we couldn’t do it without the support of a first-class team – at least 12 members of staff have been with us for 15 years’ and more – that’s a lot of knowledge and experience at your service! We’re always happy to answer any questions, so please don’t hesitate to email [email protected] or call 01778 342224 if you would like any further information about any of our award-winning day trips or Door-2-Door holidays.

Referrals and reputation are hugely important – and so rewarding for us all. If you’ve been happy with our service, please feel free to recommend us to friends and family! “A big THANK YOU for a lovely holiday in Snowdonia. My friend and I had travelled on this tour before and enjoyed it so much we decided to book again. Everyone on the coach was very friendly, and our driver David was excellent, our thanks to him”

Look out for our Special Offer days – with fares starting at just £10 pp, they’re ideal for a first time trip if you’re new to coach travel – and our ‘Book 4 seats for the price of 3’ days (when you pay only for the three highest priced seats) are perfect for taking the children or grandchildren out during the school holidays – or just a day out with friends. Our London theatre trips, starting from just £49.50 pp (to include coach travel and a top price show ticket) represent superb value and are so convenient especially if you’re not familiar with London! You’ll find our latest listing opposite but we often add new dates and shows. Keep up to date with extra departures by letting us have your e-mail address so that we can include you on our E-Newsletter distribution? You’ll also find new tours listed on the ‘News’ page of our website www.shawscoaches.co.uk.

Some of our extra special tours may include a set menu meal. Vegetarian options are usually available by prior arrangement – please ask for further details.

A ONE-WAY TICKET? Visiting friends or family? It’s not a problem to book a one-way seat, although you do have to pay the full fare (but we won’t charge extra for your suitcase)!

KEEP IN TOUCH – NEW TOURS We often put new tours on sale between our brochure publication dates. You can benefit from priority booking if you sign up for our E-newsletters. Just let us have your e-mail address and you’ll keep up to date with all the news and all the new tours! You can also visit the News Page on our website www.shawscoaches.co.uk or follow us on Twitter @shaws_coaches. If there’s a particular show or event you’d like to see, why not give us a call or send an e-mail to check whether or not we are intending to feature it? If it’s not already on sale, we can then let you know if we add it later. Destinations we hope to have on sale soon include Buckingham Palace State Apartments and a guided garden highlights tour.

“The best Shaws holiday we have ever had. Admittedly the weather was perfect, but the hotel was excellent in every way, and once again Graham was superb organising all the excursions, keeping everyone happy, and as always exceptional driving skills. It was very welcome to have the delicious lunch on the way home. Thank you for a wonderful holiday” “It’s good to be busy and Shaws is very popular, every time I say I’m going to a show I say it’s a Coach Tour with Shaws and how great service you offer”

Please refer to the tour routes on page 24 for your nearest departure point. Travel only fares available on most tours.

2015 and 2016 mark the 350th anniversaries of The Great Plague and The Great Fire of London respectively. Our expert City & Village guide will take you from the rookeries of St. Giles (where the Plague broke out) to Pudding Lane (where the fire started). These tragic events were documented by the great diarist, Samuel Pepys, who was fortunate enough to double his fortune during this tragic time – he watched from a boat, on the river, as four-fifths of the city was destroyed – and you’ll hear his story during our afternoon visit to the ‘Samuel Pepys: Plague, Fire & Revolution’ exhibition at the National Maritime Museum, which has brought together over 200 paintings and objects from museums, galleries and private collections across the country!

Cirque du Soleil returns to the Royal Albert Hall with one of its newest touring shows, Amaluna, never before seen in the UK and marking Cirque du Soleil's 20th year at this world-famous venue! Written and directed by Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus, Cirque du Soleil's 33rd production is a celebration of love – and a tribute to the work and voice of women, with female performers making up the majority of the cast, and all eight members of the band also women.

The day starts with lunch at a speciality pie house (you can choose either vegetarian, chicken – or will you risk a meat pie)?! Then our top notch Blue Badge Guide will show you a more sinister side of London – the stamping ground of the Kray Twins, the curious cases of Inspector Whicher and other infamous London crime scenes – before you arrive at the Museum of London to view never-beforeseen objects from the Black Museum, on public display for the first time ever! Real-life case files have been used to create the stories of some of our most notorious crimes, like Dr. Crippen, the Great Train Robbery and the Millennium Dome Diamond Heist. Don’t be scared!

Our earlier Legal London tours were hugely popular – and greatly enjoyed. So, with the help of the experts at City & Village Tours, we’ve come up with a new twist on an old favourite! Your day starts with morning coffee in the splendid 16th century hall of Gray’s Inn, the smallest of the four Inns of Court. Then, you’ll be on foot for a fascinating and informative stroll around the wonderful, old buildings that make up the Inns of Court. Lunch will be taken in a local pub before you rejoin the coach for a short, guided tour continuing the story of Legal London en route to visit the highest court in the land – the Supreme Court – housed in a grand Edwardian building opposite the Houses of Parliament! You can sit in on cases being heard and, at the end of the afternoon, you can buy refreshments in the court café, which is located in the old cells.

Enjoy a couple of hours browsing in Norfolk’s lovely Georgian town of Holt, and then spend the afternoon at nearby Stody Lodge Gardens, where you’ll find an amazing collection of rhododendrons and azaleas that burst into spectacular colour each May. There’s also an Azalea Water Garden, filled with over 2000 azalea mollis, and the lodge gardens feature magnolias, camellias, late flowering bulbs and more – it all sounds rather special so we just had to include a cream tea to ‘put the icing’ on your day!

Th e s m a l l p r in t – t h i n g s y o u n eed to kn o w Cancellations If you need to cancel your booking, you should telephone us as soon as possible. Cancellations will only be accepted during office hours and cancellation charges are determined from the time at which we receive written notification of the cancellation (you can either return your ticket to us by post or in person or send an email to confirm the cancellation). We charge a fee to cover administration and other costs and cancellation charges are as follows: Up to 48 hours before departure… 20% of total paid Less than 48 hours before departure… 50% of total paid Less than 24 hours before departure… No refund In addition, no refund will be given for any prepaid meal, theatre ticket, admission charges, etc. which are included in the ticket price and not recoverable by us. On most tours, if your cancellation is made more than four weeks before departure, you may be able to change your booking to another day tour on payment of a transfer fee of £1.50pp. You are also welcome to pass on your ticket to a friend at no extra charge but it’s a good idea to let us know that someone else will be travelling in your place. We reserve the right to withdraw any excursion due to lack of support or circumstances beyond our control. Any such cancellation would usually be made no later than one week before departure and, in this instance, your fare would be refunded in full and this would be the limit of our liability. Child Fares Usually apply from ages 3 to 16 inclusive, but age limits may vary on some tours. Children under 3 can usually travel free if they do not require a seat on the coach. Under 16’s must be escorted by an adult. Coach Seating Seat numbers are usually allocated in order of booking but we hold two front seats for ‘Registered Disabled’ passengers and also reserve the right to alter seating arrangements if necessary. Coach Tickets Please hand your coach ticket to the driver when you board. Admission tickets for shows, concerts, etc. will normally be given to you by our driver during the journey. Departure Times During the journey, our driver will announce departure times from each stop. Please make sure you note these details carefully. If you are late, we will have to leave without you, to avoid

22

inconvenience to the other passengers. If that should happen, we will not be liable for any costs you incur. (We will always try to contact you if you have given us your mobile phone number). Health & Safety If you wish to board the coach with items other than normal hand luggage or suitcases, please obtain our consent at the time of booking. We reserve the right to refuse permission to board if we consider a passenger has any items or equipment that will be detrimental to the health and safety of our staff and/or other customers. Our drivers are not allowed to take any action that may put at risk their health, safety, welfare or the legal requirements for a break in duty. Smoking is not permitted on board. Meeting Friends We always try to park in a convenient, central location, whenever possible, but sometimes arrangements may have to be amended on the day. May we suggest that you plan to meet at a wellknown landmark or café and also exchange mobile phone numbers? Mobile Phones If you need to use a mobile whilst on the coach, please keep your conversation as quiet and as brief as possible to avoid distracting your driver and to minimise disturbance to other passengers. Pets Assistance dogs are welcome on board our tours but other animals are not allowed. Special Care for Disabled Customers We hold two front seats for the use of a Registered Disabled passenger and their companion on each tour. However, some excursions may involve long journeys or long walks and some visitor attractions (especially theatres) may have steps and no lifts. If you tell us about your disability before you book, we will do our best to check that a tour is suitable for you. At your own risk, we are happy to carry a limited number of wheelchairs, walkers and scooters, although they cannot be secured in the luggage compartment and we cannot be held responsible for any damage to them. Wheelchair and scooter users must be accompanied by someone who is able to take charge of the chair (or scooter) and, where appropriate dismantle and reassemble it, disconnect any batteries and load it into the luggage area. No individual piece of equipment should weigh more than 15 kgs and Schedule 3 scooters are not permitted under any circumstances. Our drivers are happy to provide general assistance but cannot provide help that extends to the lifting and carrying of any passenger or their wheelchair or scooter, nor to act as carers.

Your Health You may wish to consult your doctor, before undertaking a coach journey of more than 3 hours, if you have ever had DVT or pulmonary embolism; a family history of clotting conditions; an inherited tendency to clot; cancer, or treatment for cancer in the past; undergone major surgery in the last 3 months; had hip or knee replacement within the last 3 months; ever suffered from a stroke, heart or lung disease. ……………………………………………… It is always our intention to operate an excursion in accordance with the published itinerary, but we reserve the right to cancel or amend any excursion, should circumstances make this necessary, either prior to or during an outing. We cannot accept liability for changes that are made necessary by events or actions by persons beyond our control. All arrangements made for meals, visits, theatre, etc., and for the use of road vehicles, trains, or any other means of conveyance operated by persons or bodies other than ourselves, are made by us as agents for and on behalf of our passengers and on the express conditions that we will not be responsible for any loss, damage, injury, delays or inconvenience caused to or sustained by passengers other than by the negligence of the Firm and its employees who are under the direct control of the Firm. Any terms and conditions imposed by such other contractors through the Firm shall be binding on the passengers as if they had directly contracted such services. The allocation of theatre and event seats is at our discretion and maybe subject to change. We cannot guarantee specific locations and theatre castings always remain subject to change. No refunds will be given in the event of anyone not appearing. All special offers are subject to the Firm’s rules and conditions that are currently in force and our day excursions are operated subject to our standard terms and conditions of carriage, a copy of which is available from our office. We also reserve the right to pass on any increases in costs that are outside our control, e.g. VAT, fuel prices, etc. Complaints If you have a complaint during a tour, please inform our driver in the first instance so that he/she may do his/her best to assist you. If you wish to make further representation on your return, please write to us within 21 days after the date of travel. We will not respond to any complaints received later than this time.

Please refer to the tour routes on page 24 for your nearest departure point. Travel only fares available on most tours.
