Workshop on using LEAP Date:

November 20, 2015

Venue: IIT Chennai

Riya Rachel Mohan, Consultant and Murali Ramakrishnan Ananthakumar, Senior Research Analyst from CSTEP attended a workshop, organised by the World Resources Institute (WRI), in association with Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) to conduct a hands-on, basic skill training on LEAP model. The one day training was held in Chennai on November 20, 2015. It drew participation from several state government organisations, like Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC), Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd (TANGEDCO) and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB). In addition, participants from Auroville Consulting and Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai attended the workshop. LEAP, the Long range Energy Alternatives Planning System, is a comprehensive systems planning tool widely used by decision makers in various sectors for scenario-based modelling. The training introduced us to the energy demand analysis, energy balance and electricity sector modelling in LEAP. The software would help CSTEP to compute energy projections of various sectors in India and assist us to provide support for decision makers.
